Hi everyone. New to this forum. I've just bought a 2012 X5 40D XDrive M Sport. Generally very good but I am going to be servicing it myself, so well worth being a member of a good group. It does have an issue with the satnav which I'm currently working to sort out. Hopefully avoiding BMW dealers where possible, as I can't afford their rates. Previously had a new 2013 520D estate but that was under warranty until I sold it so no need for any work.

Morning Paul

Welcome, very nice.

If you aren't aware here are some websites that should help when working on the car. www.realoem.com this is a BMW online parts list put the last 7 digits of your vin in the search box and it will bring up your model. The exploded drawings also help in understanding how they fit. www.newtis.info this is an online technical information site the same information that Dealers use. Plenty of how too's wiring diagrams and descriptions.

Also there is a Register of BMW specialists they can be very competitive on price particularly in comparison to the Dealers but for some jobs invaluable.

Enjoy

Dave

Thanks. I'm just getting to grips with everything at the moment. Got a fault code reader but would like to know how to telnet to the vehicle. How does coding work?

Check out the link above. It allows you to change and customise many settings BMW don't really want you to too. For example, I turned off my running lights and got rid of the stop/start nonesense.

https://bimmercode.app/

I can suppy up to date app. All you need is a bluetooth OBD plugin and an Android phone.
