Hi everyone had a new problem pop up recently on the e60,seem to be down on power from cold or when warmed up when you put your foot down hard it feels like the brakes are being tapped slightly and the cars hesitant to pull. 

The engine management light has popped on a few times but when you switch the car off and leave it for say an hour when you go to start it again the light has gone off and might stay off for ages.  

I took both vanos solinoids out and cleaned them but still had the same problem  

I did manage to get it plugged in by my rac cover and came up with 2 fault codes which are.

  Dtc2a87 which he said was a Unknown vanos exhaust side

  Dtc2e69 knock censor signal 2 

he said to change the exhaust vanos solinoid which he told me was the bottom one of the 2 on the front of the engine,I have changed it today for a new one but the problem is still there,

I think I might change the other solinoid as well just in case that one is also on the way out.

It could well be the other valve or even an ignition based problem as well as a knock sensor problem. I would personally start by looking at the ignition system as if you have problems there it could be reflected in the other two systems...certainly worth checking first.
