Hi guys,

I'm getting a knocking sound when I go over even tiny bumps in the road. I had the wheel off the other day to check all the bushes (who knew there could be so many) everything looks ok to my untrained eye. There were two that looked slightly worn (pictured) but it there a ruber mout at the top of the suspension spring that I can't see?

I checked the ARB bushes and they look ok, the shock top mounts look good too but wthout taking it off theres no way to see the top.

Can anyone suggest anything else?

I had a similar problem on a Jaguar XJ6, that was the bottom bush on the shock absorber worn.

Also same type of thing on an X type Jag, that was the front bush on the rear trailing arm

Went for a drive today and sat in the back while the wife drove and it sounds like it's the rear top shock mount. It looks like a fairly easy fix, I'm going to euros tomorrow to pick up the new one and see how it goes. If that doesn't solve it I'm going to just have to replace all of them, I'm going to leave the ARB bushes till last as they look like an absolute pig to replace.

I've got the same problem but drivers side rear , did the top mount cure it ? I've just booked mine in as am at a loss to what it is ,I not long ago fitted coil overs all round

To be honest I've not got round to doing it yet, it's this weekends job. I've been seriously way layed by the water pump going on my beetle, which took out pretty much the whole engine.

I'll keep you posted though, it looks pretty simple so it might be worth doing. I know from my Golf days that with coil overs it's best to use brand new top mounts rather than reuse the old ones.

Sounds like top mount to me. Had this on several cars. Difficult to ID the problem with the car jacked up as it only makes the noise when the weight of the car is applied to it.

Better to do the top mounts first before you ##### about with the ARB bushes.

Top mounts arrived today, so thats this weekends job sorted. What are the best places to jack up the rear? Is there a rear Jacking point like there is as the front?
