120D Se Convetible Roof Problem

Hi All,

I am hoping for some advice please.

I have a 2008 120d SE. The convertible roof fabric has a wear mark on the passengers side by the rear window. I took it to my nearest BMW dealer who diagnosed the problem as incorrect weft of the fabric (the lines of the fabric are incorrect), so the fabric is folding incorrectly and getting pinched in the mechanism and will eventually cause a hole to form.

Although its a manufactures fault BMW UK are only offering to pay for 50% of the costs put a new roof on which is £1250.

I think its fair that they should pay for all the costs as its a manufacturers fault and would not have shown in the lifetime of the guarantee as its wear caused by incorrect fabric stich.

Has anyone else heard of this problem before?

I need to gather as much evidence as possible.

Thanks in advance, Laura

welcome to the forum - :)

as a 2008 model, I would say that's general wear & tear. if bmw are meeting you half way at the cost then I would get it done unless you can find a specialist apart from dealers who can repair/change that for you but that would cost you 50% of what your going to pay at the dealers anyway.

however, I have not heard of an incorrect fitted fabric on the roof

I remember the e46 convertables soft tops where excessively prone to leaking roofs from new.

id agree with the above, on a 2008, your lucky they are even offering to pay 50% id say just take it on the chin and pay it, plus youll have some sort of bmw warranty on it and paperwork/recipts for when you come sell it....

best of luck.
