Start Stop Function Not Working? Any Ideas? Bmw 118D M Sport

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I have a BMW 118d M Sport and since I have owned it (for the past 6 months) the start stop function has never worked? So I have read the manual and checked blogs and I know it has to be the right situation to work and I have also trickle charged the battery so it's fully charged but it still won't function? BMW want an agronomist amount to run it through there diagnostics!

Any ideas would be greatly appreciate or anyone had the same problems?

Thanks guys.

Mark

Charge the battery fully then leave the car to sit and go to sleep. The sleep cycle is 6 hours long. Then retest the fault.

The stop start function won't operate if any dme fault codes are stored so maybe worth a diagnostic check.

Where are you based mate?

Hi Kirk, I have tried charging the battery but this hasn't solved the problem? I guess I'll have to get a diagnostic run on it to see if there are any faults present? I know there not cheap, does anyone happen to know anyone with a diagnostic kit I could borrow? I'm based in Nailsea on the outskirts of Bristol.

Thanks for your advice Kirk much appreciated mate.

Mark

You might be able to find a cheap one on places like eBay. You need a obd2 code reader to read your car

Is it activated in OBDII ??

It's programmed into the ecu. Then when all the required conditions are met the stop start function will work. Any dme related fault codes stored will stop the function working. Other things that affect it are things like temperature, battery charge, etc

Often overlooked, if the ecu has been altered or reset then it could just not have been re-activated. Conditions required (if its activated) are gear lever in "Park" or "Neutral" and handbrake on. If it starts with key then fault codes shouldn't affect the Start button unless its a relay or wiring issue.

Why not pop out the button and check continuity?

If the car has stop start function from the factory then the only way to deactivate it is through re programming. Any dme faults stored will disable the function. Even if say a glow plug fault is stored then the stop start won't work.

So.... Your "DME" or fault code... This SHOULD also apply to key-start to prevent damage...

ITS A BUTTON !!

** Correction**

This button does employ a multi-connector which suggests it needs info and power from other areas... However, this should only reflect the fact that if the car starts by its designated KEY then it can also do the same by an installed easy-start button...

Relay or wiring TO/FROM Start button or relay ORRRRRRRR not activated in OBDII

These are the ONLY three conditions
