motorway for 30 mins, 3rd gear... get the revs up and sit there with the revs up higher 3k or so. This will regen and blow out all crud. When driving as normal, get the revs up, use up the gears before changing, dont change gears too early. Not only good for the DPF but good for your flywheel if its a manual. Diesels need to be driven hard sometimes.

Greydog started following DPF Cleaning fluid and Heater doesn't work
-
Hi Hamid Welcome to the Forum First check the engine bay side there is a distribution valve and Auxiliary water pump make sure it's working. Then inside the car if all fans and controls are working check the Final Stage Resistor (used to be a common fail on E53 X5's) Have a look at www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box it should bring up your model, then check the Heater section you should find the FSR (Final Stage Resistor) in the blower motor. You will now have all the part numbers you need to find a replacement at a sensible price. The FSR on X5 E53 models was a fiddle to change but not beyond anyone with a bit of sense Dave

Hi everyone, I have a 2007 BMW X3 and the heater fan works fine. The upper vents (the top near the windshield) blow nice hot air, but the front and footwell vents only blow cold air. I already did air bleeding, and the coolant system seems to be working well — heat is good in top vent parts, but the heater only gets hot from the top vents. I tought it may fault of air distributor damper but the cooler works perfectly in 3 vents that means the door of air distributir works Has anyone experienced this before or know what could cause it? Thanks in advance!

Morning Andrew Someone with the software can trigger a Regen if your isn't doing it it's self. For the regen cycle to trigger you need at least a half hour forty minutes with revs at 2500 or above you also need all the Glo plugs working as BMW use them to boost cylinder temps. Now the actual DPF, depending on DPF age and the type of journeys undertaken we are back to Software to measure the ASH content % as this is the bit that tells the car to show the warning and eventually go into limp mode. Solutions (1) take it for a good trash (Italian Tune Up) see if that works (2) Software there are several Diagnostic systems now capable but as I have INPA/ISTA that is my weapon of choice (3) Last is the Garage many will recommend NEW DPF ££ some will recommend DPF cleaning ££ (friend of our sons had this done seems to work) Both the last options will need software capable of resetting all the DPF adaptions to factory settings Dave

Hi, I have a warning on my dash that the DPF unit needs attention. I assume this means it requires regeneration. Any pointers on best type of additive fluid to use for this and what is the most successful procedure, Thanks Paneuro.

Going by that really enticing and highly detailed description, colour me not very interested. If you want to sell it as Reacher would say "details matter!"

thesoundone started following Gear box failure
-
Morning all, I'm a new member joining the group because I have read the issues in this thread and am also experiencing the same. Mine is. 220d 2 series active tourer from 2016. I also have play in the drive shaft on the near side and some oil around where the drive come out of the gear box. Mine is the aisin 8 speed. Has anyone collectively contacted BMW regarding this matter. I've heard BMW recalled this gearbox in New Zealand, so there is a precedent.

Wacko Jacko started following Running Boards
-
Thanx for your response Dave I will follow up on your suggestions. Cheers.
-
Morning Mick Welcome to the Forum First question why not OEM running boards ? You would then know they will fit here are the OEM parts and fixings If you take a look at www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box and it will bring up your model. Then search Body section Once you have all the correct part numbers you can search the Internet for the best supply (remember you need Left and Right parts) You should find parts from BMW Breakers as well as contacting BMW Dealers to see what their prices are like (sometimes a pleasant surprise) Dave

BMW X1 valve cover gasket replacement
Greydog replied to Brummieboy77's topic in BMW X1 Series Forum
Hi Asif Welcome to the Forum First check to find out where the smoke is coming from, once your sure then make a decision on whether you can (a) DIY or (b) pay a garage. If it is the Garage route then an Internet search for BMW Specialists (there is a Register of BMW Specialists) should bring up a couple at least who are not to far from you. Then talk to them about costs etc Good luck Dave -
Hi Tomy Welcome to the Forum When I rebuilt my E53 4.6is I rebuilt the Vanos system from memory the cost was around £65 for all seals and O rings which turned out to be Febi items So are the prices you have for a rebuild kit or a refurbed Vanos ? Dave
-
Hi everyone, my BMW is due for a VANOS replacement and I’ve found two options with a big price gap: Febi Bilstein (265.19€) - https://onlydrive.pro/parts/camshaft...bilstein-46508 Maxgear (91.29€) - https://onlydrive.pro/parts/gear-spr...axgear-54-1505 Has anyone here used either of these? How do they compare in terms of durability, fitment, and noise after installation? Is the premium for Febi Bilstein worth it, or does Maxgear hold up fine in real-world use?

Hi there all. I recently bought a bmw x1 xdrive 2014. There is smoke entering through the heater vents. Looking online ppl suggested replacing head cover and gasket. Has anyone done it? Is there anyone in Birmingham who can do it? Thank you

2017 430d LED headlight beam adjustment for continental.
Kevmond replied to Kevmond's topic in BMW 4 Series Forum
Thanks for reply. It’s similar to what I’ve read elsewhere then. I parked the car facing a wall, not sure if it’s just me, but there’s a slight kick in the beam pattern towards the nearside. Think I’ll chance it. Many other people claim they don’t bother with any beam deflectors. -
2017 430d LED headlight beam adjustment for continental.
Greydog replied to Kevmond's topic in BMW 4 Series Forum
Morning Kevin I know that there was an adjustment lever for HID's but I thought I read that LED's had a Flat pattern that cant be adjusted. Does your Local BMW Dealer know more I wonder worth asking As an aside my Brother inlaw has a 5 series Estate and does many miles on the other side of the Channel and I don't recall him doing anything, I will have to ask the question Dave -
Good evening all, looking at going to Belgium next week for a night away. Cant see anything in handbook (online or in I drive) regarding driving on the continent that is relevant. It mentions turning off Auto setting and adjust setting in Idrive “settings - lighting - headlights - headlight adaptation” however mine doesn’t have this option to select/change, not does it have adaptive LED lights, just LED’s. Had a look on the rear of the lamps, nothing obvious to swap over (have seen a lever on other models) Any ideas please? Worst case I’ll sling some beam deflectors on.

4 Series Convertible - water collection in sills issue !
Julian Pasiut replied to Julian Pasiut's topic in BMW 4 Series Forum
Hi Anne, Im so sorry if my reply/reaction to your question to me is so late (I have not been well and my attention to all emails has been sloppy to say the least !) Anyhow, my response is that you and I seem to be among the few who have had this problem (at least on Bimmer). It would seem that most people 'just get on with it' and never kick up a stink which means that those it does effect indignantly have little recourse or sway to effect an answer/remedy ! What I'm saying is that there are not enough 4 series convertible owners out there that are outspoken or willing to or have experienced this situation to make any difference, which is a shame for those it has effected. I dont think I can give this any more time now unless someone else wants to raise the issue and carry the flag as I am just a pawn and have no influence. Anyway, thank you for contributing and I hope you have no further issues with your car. Best regards, Julian
