  6. Update on this. It was a terminal in the plug. Terminal was not making a good connection with one of the pins on the o2 sensor plug. Extremely annoying but fixed
  7. thanks Greydog - yeah that's my worry and I guess you never find out what Admiral would pay out till you make a claim. Maybe after arguing and proving you can't source a similar car with similar condition they would pay up but I suppose 'similar condition' is a very vague thing. Thinking I'll pay the extra for agreed value policy. I'm just amazed Admiral can include 90 days free European breakdown cover for a 39 year old car - maybe they just have one guy in France with a 2CV and a tow rope Ken
  8. Morning Ken Take care here my X5 E53 4.6is only 800 ever registered in the UK and less than 200 left on the road is on a Classic policy with agreed Value. My other cars are like you with Admiral the danger is that the mainline companies will use valations from an assessor employed by them or a general panel, ask We Buy any Car for an estimate of what your 635 is worth !! My agreed value is £9k (I was offered more last year at Goodwood) We Buy any Car tell me its worth £700 Just my thoughts Dave

  10. I’ll line the fleet up when the x5 starts! I must have a drain from the rear bootlid somewhere… I’ll look when I get chance
  11. It shifts!!! 😂😂😂
  12. I'm smilling !!!
  13. Hi Folks, Am in the UK and about to buy a 40 year old M635csi. I got a quote from Hagarty for classic car limited mileage insurance at around £600 a year. This is based on it having a set agreed value so if it's a total write off or unrecovered that's what they pay you. I was surprised to find that Admiral say they can add it to my other 2 cars, with social and commuting use for me and wife, with European breakdown cover for £260! But that's not on an agreed value basis - but surely they would still have to pay out a fair amount if totalled? Any thoughts on classic Vs regular car insurance here? I kind of assumed Admiral would just not cover it as such an old car - or would be really expensive. thanks Ken
  14. ….. went to set off…. Diva has a flat battery! Haha
  15. Ha...I just sold my Porsche (2001 Boxster S) and now have a 420D convertible (with remap). The Boxster was a beautiful car and very energetic but my body is getting old and decrepit and falling out onto the pavement to get out was a pathetic display ! Anyhow, we now have a cockapoo and she has her own back seat now !! Wish I had bought a 435D in hindsight but lets see what a year or so in this girl will decide !!! PS Good luck with your new Porsche !!!
  16. Hello I have a problem with me E38 1998 which has failed the mot which is due to the ABS light not illuminating. I’ve just sent the cluster off to see if any problems with that and nothing. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks Dan
  17. Morning Jay Technically there isnt a down pipe there should be a diesel particulate filter (DPF) if there is a single downpipe then it will be aftermarket. DPF's are normally really tough the bit that blows is the flexible pipe at the bottom BMW call it a Decoupling element and still sell them as will a number of aftermaket exhaust suppliers like Bosal Try looking at www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box then check the exhaust section. Once you have the part numbers just use the Internet to find the best deal or as Stu says Quarry have always been helpful Dave
  18. How have you got on with diagnosing the fault? Had to do a running repair on my Z3 in the week as the original intake trunking had perished and was drawing unregulated air through the hole and the car ran incredibly rough - replaced the part with the new one that I had in the boot for years and runs great now Another thing worth trying when its running on song is using super-unleaded - has made the world of difference the flat spot at around 2000rpm which has disappeared since using the higher octane (and lower ethanol) fuel
  19. congratualtions! a new beast to the stables 🙂 Hopefully the X5 will be accepting of the its new companion
  20. Well….. the drop top pug is getting kicked out soon… I went on eBay and made a cheeky bid. off to pick up a nice 4.5 v8 Porsche cayenne up on Saturday !! ironically I won it while I was registering my wife on a speed awareness course 🙄 let’s see how many times the X5 is going to have a hissy fit when this one turns up. 😂
  21. Hi Jay. have you tried quarry motors?
  22. Anyone have a 320d e90 downpipe the could sell me?
  23. Greydog, Officially the fuel tank needs dropping to replace this bracket as there are locating lugs between the cable bracket (correctly identified as No12 in diagram) and a few fixtures around it. Ive ordered an aluminium replacement for a similar price of £10 to the originals replacement. There is a lovely billet item available for £120, which can be fitted without the need to drop the fuel tank. Although I cannot warrant that cost to myself. Cable ties can be used as a temporary repair, however the exhaust needs lowering in order to remove a heat shield to gain access. I wish I’d “borrowed” some stainless cable ties from work. IMO, if I’m going to that length to make a repair, I may as well go for a permanent fix. Against my wife’s wishes, I’ll no doubt be climbing underneath sometime next week to fix it. I had surgery on my collarbone on Monday due to a mal union following an accident a couple of yrs back. I’ll report back once I’m done, maybe with some pics and a brief guide to assist others. Apparently it’s quite common on F series BM’s.
  24. Hi, thanks for your input, but I've finally found a lens in Australia. It's exactly the right one, so good result. Phil
  25. Hi Kevin Well looking at www.realoem.com it looks as though above the Propshaft you have a bracket to support the Handbrake cables item 6 at the front directly over the Prop and Item 12 to support the split of cables left and right I would start there it may just need replacing or short term a couple of cable ties applied Hope your up and around soon Dave
  26. Morning all, So my car started making a scraping sound under the centre console when accelerating hard, Ive found on another forum a video with the exact sound I’m experiencing. Turns out it’s due to the handbrake cable clips above the fuel tank breaking and the hand brake cables rub on the prop shaft. Has anyone got any experience with renewing these? Apparently the tank needs to be dropped. People have said that cable ties work well as a cheap alternative. I’d normally climb underneath, play and report my findings, but I’m recovering from an operation at the moment so cannot get underneath for a few weeks. 😕
  27. Morning Dimitris Just checked my wiring diagram in ISTA and it doesn't cover E38 models so not much help at the moment but I will dig Dave
  28. Hello all Does anyone know which is the cable that is connected to the thermostat heater element, the plug that is on the side of the thermostat housing. I was working in the car and removed the plug from the housing a few months ago and now I do not remember which of the two plugs, there are two identical plugs on flying leads close to each other, is the one that I should connect to the heater element. Many thanks
