  5. Morning Kyle Welcome to the Forum If there is vibration at such a low speed I would suspect not only the control arm but is the wheel Tyre out of balance is the fixing bolt and ball joint torqued correctly ? Also consider if changing suspension parts it is good practice to change bothsides at the same time. The job is straight forward just make sure the main bolt is Torqued up when the control arm is in the loaded postion (Weight on the suspension) or the bush will only last a very short time. Dont know where you are but in the UK most suspension parts are available from Motor Parts Factors next day at least prce I would expect to be around £25 to £30 per side. Worth considering is a complete suspension refresh as if one control arm is that bad other parts will be worn as well Only you can assess the amount of risk as non of us can see/feel how loose things are Hope this helps Dave
  6. Morning Stewart Which model is it ? If the fan is Electric then normally they a quiet in operation if it is the engine driven fan then they are an easy change. Just remember the nut that holds it in place is Left Hand thread. Remove the fan shroud a good adjustable spanner just squeezes in on the nut, a whack with a rubber mallet normally loosens the nut the just wind it off. Now you have a choice, either replace it with a direct replacement or as I did with my 4.4 and 4.6 X5's I replaced it with an Electric fan from a later model (Fan and Shroud) activated using a Landrover top hose thermostat Dave
  7. Great Result Kev Wonder what your Dealer would have charged 😂 Dave
  8. Hi, I bought a used 2003 BMW X5 4.4i and it has a loose/worn front right side lower control arm with ball joint (just ike the image below). I first noticed it when I was driving 80 km/h (49 mph). The steering wheel was shaking, almost vibrating. I am trying to decide if I should drive my X5 a little bit longer or park it until I replace the control arm. I might be able to replace the control in a week or so. What should I do?

  10. Great write up and well done! chinesium is indeed the worlds finest!
  11. Hi Stewart. Removing the aircon clutch isn’t a massive job on the 4 cylinders. I haven’t done a 6 cylinder one yet, but I’m sure it’s a bit of a squeeze and access from below would be the best option. stu.
  12. So, Bracket arrived from eBay, nothing but the best Chineseum stainless steel. Jacked car up as high as possible and placed an axle stand under the rear jacking point. 6x T45 bolts removed from x brace pictured, and a T60 on the O/S to allow the brace room to drop when lowering exhaust. Rear exhaust supported with trolley jack, mounts undone with a 13mm nut either side of rear silencer and lowered. 4x metal heat shield nuts removed, 4x plastic heat shield nuts removed from felt section of under shielding. Jiggle metal heat shield about a bit and slide towards the rear to remove. Broken lugs from handbrake bracket fell out when heat shield was undone. Fairly conclusive diagnosis! Handbrake cable can be pulled down enough to allow ring end of spanner to undo retaining nut. New bracket straddles old bracket and secures cables very well. Refit everything that was removed, not forgetting that metal heat shield goes underneath felt section. Apologies for pics not being in order, some didn’t want to upload at all. EBay item was in fact £6.79!!
  13. Cooling fan is noisy when the aircon is switched on. Play in the bearing. Has anybody done this recently and how difficult is it to remove ? I have only had the car a month. Look forward to responses.
  14. Hi Dave Thank you very much for the reply, that's really handy information. I aim to keep it for as many 100k's as I can just to see how far it will go as my commuter. I shall get it booked in for the above so really appreciate the details. Darren
  15. Hi Andy did you find out what caused the problem, only asking as my 21 plate x5 has the exact same issue. Just trying to narrow it down to what it could be

  17. Morning Darren Welcome to the Forum Great motor First 110k is not high miles for one of these engines if it is well maintained my brother inlaws 540d xDrive Touring has been ECU tuned since new and produces 400+ hp is currently North of 200k and going strong A full Diagnostic check would/should tell you more, a smooth running test on the injectors will show any that are out of step. If the transmission hasn't had a service it is due one at 110k, both Diffs (Note the Rear Diff has two chambers which hold different fluids) will need service as will the Transfer case and Gearbox if your having this done at a Dealer it will not be cheap around £900 to £1000. Check Tyres carefully they should be the same make Front and Rear and prefferably BMW approved and star rated. Dave

  19. Hi All I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this issue and any ideas... E71 2014 63reg X6 M50d, now on 110k 1 prior owner, FBMWSH upto date. So.... in January I experienced a noise under accelerating only which sounded a bit like an injector knock or due a service. Oil level good, never let me down in 10k, no smoke, average 29.5mpg, no power loss, no rough idle, no issues at all runs like new. So I had a full Service with best recommended oil including all filters and fuel filter. It didn't solve the issue. What I have now found is when driving under acceleration you get the noise but not if coast / slowing down. Its subtle and misses doesn't notice it, can't hear externally or if drive in a multistory etc just in cabin. Today I've found if parked in D on tick over I hear it how ever if in N I don't and not even when rev... Is it just a high miler issue / injectors tired but OK or something else like low Gearbox oil? Google states noises under load in Drive and not Neutral can be transmission or Injector so thought I'd ask people with a clue not google. Worst case I'll have Gearbox ZF Service done and injector test on all banks. Thanks in Advance.
  20. Couple of the Volvos and Mercedes had the same system in the E55's and the CLS 63 I used to keep a pay as you go sim in them and set my phone on divert to that number if not answered, when I got in the car I turned off my phone worked really well I guess the next question is can you still get a Sim that will fit ??🤣 For the X5 so far I have a full set of PDC sensors , a coule of Ride Height sensors, a Final Stage Resistor and a couple of ULF (Bluetooth units) 17" spare wheel etc still got a load of stuff to sort through though Dave
  21. Having a look round it, I’m a bit shocked… it’s quick, it’s big , it’s loud…. But it doesn’t have memory seats, auto tint mirror, auto lights or parking assist and even a stereo which my phone can connect to… it has a built in wired sim carded phone! Haha. it’s basically a big engine with a cool box in the glove compartment. 😂 … and it only has 18” wheels…. the X5 has started again and seems content that it’s not getting replaced. Vive le Bimmer!
  22. Hi Dan - already did and looking pretty good actually 🙂
  23. Hi. Please feel free to give us a try for insurance if you wish. Regards, Dan.
  24. So you have gone over to the Dark Side 🤣 You will never need the radio the engine is all you need never use mine in the 4.6 V8's are addictive. Good luck with the Porker Dave
  25. Update on this. It was a terminal in the plug. Terminal was not making a good connection with one of the pins on the o2 sensor plug. Extremely annoying but fixed
  26. thanks Greydog - yeah that's my worry and I guess you never find out what Admiral would pay out till you make a claim. Maybe after arguing and proving you can't source a similar car with similar condition they would pay up but I suppose 'similar condition' is a very vague thing. Thinking I'll pay the extra for agreed value policy. I'm just amazed Admiral can include 90 days free European breakdown cover for a 39 year old car - maybe they just have one guy in France with a 2CV and a tow rope Ken
  27. Morning Ken Take care here my X5 E53 4.6is only 800 ever registered in the UK and less than 200 left on the road is on a Classic policy with agreed Value. My other cars are like you with Admiral the danger is that the mainline companies will use valations from an assessor employed by them or a general panel, ask We Buy any Car for an estimate of what your 635 is worth !! My agreed value is £9k (I was offered more last year at Goodwood) We Buy any Car tell me its worth £700 Just my thoughts Dave
  28. I’ll line the fleet up when the x5 starts! I must have a drain from the rear bootlid somewhere… I’ll look when I get chance
