  2. Hi Andrew Do you have any Diagnostic software ? or know someone who does ? By selecting live data I can see my injectors and whether they are operating at the same (or close volumes) I can also so see fuel rail pressure. So I don't have to get my fingers dirty unless there's and issue. My brother In-law's 540d estate is at a little over 200k and running well so mileage shouldn't be an issue I would start by checking for any leaks on the Inlet side. Unmetered air will cause a misfire Dave
  3. Hi Dave, I don't like the sound of that. Firstly I don't know the first thing about checking fuel rail pressure, and the injectors have never been checked while I have had it. I got it at 89000 miles and its now at around 144,000. I can get the car to go as quick as I want without a miss as long as I don't want any severe acceleration. I would also be nervous about removing injectors as I have heard many horror stories about them breaking. The vacuum lines were renewed last year. It would appear the fuel sensor would be the only thing would want to try myself before i have to surrender it to a Bmw expert. thanks Paneuro.
  4. Morning Andrew Your description sounds like fuel delivery so worth checking fuel rail pressure and sensor as a starting point. Also an Injector check (don't know how many miles you have done Inlet side all Vacuum lines and pressure hoses good (no cracks) throttle body OK Fuel filter OK Dave
  5. Morning Tino Nothing from James just mailed him as a prod I brought an X5 E70 cheap as a project the previous owner had spent a fortune changing parts and finally lost patience with the car. The fault list was huge but after a lot of digging I discovered BMW use earth switching so started working through all the multiple earth points that helped (Not much but it helped) Next while inspecting the loom in the boot I discovered cable splices/joints covered with a clear plastic sleeve (couple of pictures attached) when I moved one it just fell apart, turns out the joints are twisted and compressed then covered with the sleeve. If moisture gets in the joints corrode (black residue) and come apart. I am not sure when BMW started doing this so maybe worth checking yours. I spent an hour or so stripping these joins and soldering then sealing with shrink wrap. I was able to see all modules for the first time and clear down all fault codes and fault memory. That was 3 years back and almost 40k still need to keep an eye on it after all it's a BMW 馃榿 When my sons friend brought his copy we had to set up VM ware and a Virtual Machine running Win 7 on his Win 10 Laptop initially getting the Drivers to work was a pain at first we loaded and reloaded them several times before we could get it to run cleanly. For drivers you could try ESYS (that's where my copy came from) Also check whether you need 32bit drivers or 64bit Dave
  6. Hello there Dave 馃憢 I kind of put the OBD port issue on the back burner since the late time I responded, figured I'd button up the rest of the car first since I'm not getting anywhere at this time. I haven't checked the wiring on the DME side yet so I need to do that as well. Did you ever get anything back from James on the matter? I poked at the Ediabas.ini file and made some adjustments per someone else's recommendation but that didn't work either. I restored the file back to original since. I'm gonna attempt to reach out to a BMW tech from Japan to see if I can find out any more information on these 320i's and see what I can find. What are the odds that this issue is module related? I'm also wondering if there is an issue with my Cable or the drivers themselves. Where can I get a copy of just the drivers to reinstall?
  7. Hi Greydog, While I had some troubles loading INPA from my laptop, I want to report back that I have successfully re-coded the RDS module using Pro Tool. Now all is working perfectly! Thanks for all your previous help! Best, JC

  9. Hi, i have an E61 2008 530 d m sport and when I give it the beans it starts misfiring unless I back the foot of. If I drive it normally it settles down. I have noticed it behaves like this when I come off a roundabout i particular. any ideas guys. thanks Paneuro.
  10. Selling number plate 'X5 MNT' Just gauging interest, willing to listen to offers.
  11. The old "un plug it and restart" 馃ぃ Glad it was that simple dave
  12. Hi Dave, thank you for your message and tips. Long story short the problem was actually with my phone. I went to my local garage and they placed their own mobile on the charging pad and it worked, unlike my phone. I tried the equivalent of control alt delete, switched the phone off and on and lo and behold it started working!! Cost: no charge. Thank you for trying to help. Regards Paul

  14. Hi Dave I was nervous before about having the DPF tampered with, even more so now. They removed the turbos last week and sent them off for refurb this week while they are on holiday. I'll speak to them on Monday and ask them not to mess with the DPF. I had the EGR and cooler replaced by a main dealer about 2 years / 8k miles ago and that's when the problems with burning oil smell in the cabin started. Last year I read online that a burning oil smell is not uncommon with the N47 due to oil leaks from the valve cover onto the exhaust. It's hard to see the edge of the valve cover because of the vacuum tanks and control devices but I had a look underneath and noticed the DPF was covered in oil. When I hooked up my scanner to bleed the fuel system I noticed codes relating to exhaust temp upstream of the cat. I replaced the sensor and all seemed well, then the EGR air plausibility codes started, then the charging pressure control and then limp mode. I'll make sure I take it for a decent run regularly. If the turbos last another 50,000 miles they'll probably outlive me. Cheers Jim
  15. Ah so it is oil, thankfully I checked this and all good. I'll make a mental note to change this at oil change time. Thanks for the advice.
  16. Hi Jim My experience with my own E70 3.0d which I brought very cheap as an MOT fail due to DPF being tampered with. Is the EGR had become clogged and that had caused the same situation as your in, the old owner removed the EGR and DPF then fitted a refurbished Turbo. The MOT fail drove him over the edge and he just wanted rid of the car. I got a used EGR and cooler plus a used DPF from Quarry Motors, had both professionally cleaned then fitted and a little faffing around reprogramming and I have a very cheap E70 3.0sd which has passed 3 MOT's now. For information I brought the E70 as a project and to keep the miles down on my E53 4.6is. Most of my journeys these days are less than 10 or 15 miles but once a week I give it a Motorway run of about 45mins and so far so good. As said if an MOT Station suspect the car has been tampered with it's a fail. As your DPF has been regenerating personally I would keep it Good luck Dave
  17. Morning Dave I'll bear that in mind. I do the occasional long run but maybe need to do so more regularly. The car didn't smoke and according to my scan tool the DPF have been regenerating. When the turbo guy explained that the root cause was the DPF and said he could "cure" it, I asked about the risk of MOT failure. He reckons that the emissions without a DPF are way below the limit and that his particular fix is not detectable. I'm not so sure now. He said something about drilling a hole somewhere but that doesn't sound like it's undetectable to me...
  18. Hi Ken Wow lucky man 馃榿 As the car has been stored and Aircon systems loose a little each year anyway my first thought would be try getting it serviced (Kwik fit have summer deals) The machines used vacuum out and check for leaks if it wont hold a vacuum the machine wont try and re=gas the system. My local BMW Specialist has a mobile guy come in (拢65 for my E70) Good hunting for a specialist Dave
  19. Morning Jim Just be aware that if an MOT Garage suspect a DPF delete it's an automatic fail plus it's logged so going elsewhere wont work Better solution is just give it a good run once a month in my opinion then no risk of MOT fail Dave
  20. Just one. Really wierdly, it connected yesterday! Going to see what happens later when I try again and see if it works.
  21. Thanks Dave - just noticed your post as Outlook has been filing the notification in Junk Mail. I took it to a local turbo specialist who specialize in diagnosing root cause of turbo faults/failures. They advised that the actuator that switches between the high and low pressure turbos was not holding vacuum. He said he could try replacing it but that wouldn't fix the underlying problem. He pointed out that there was oil in the intercooler pipes and recommended have both turbos refurbished. Apparently, the soot build up in the DPF caused by short trips reduces airflow in the exhaust which increases the pressure on the hot side of the turbo. The seals in the hot/low pressure side are prone to leak if the exhaust pressure increases and the leaking oil is carbonized which further damages the seals. His explanation makes sense to me and I didn't want to pay to have the actuator replaced only to have further problems in the near future. The turbos have been removed and sent for refurb and I'm expecting a bill of around 拢2,500 鈽癸笍. I asked if the refurbed turbos would fail again if I keep doing short trips and he said not if I ask him to "delete" the DPF.
  22. Hi and welcome. How many phones are registered on the stereo? my works van did the same until I deleted all the other phones and just relearned the ones I use
  23. Hi all, I have a 2023 G21. My works phone will connect to the car straight away. My own phone, a Pixel Pro 9 will not. I have tried forgetting the car in my phone settings, the car does not have the phone stored in it's memory. It connects for a split second then immediately disconnects. Interestingly, it won't register as a digital key either. Before I head off to BMW and look foolish, would anyone be able to offer a suggested fix please? Thanks
  24. HI Folks, After an 8 month search finally found a cracking M365csi with no real rust! Only issue apart from the terrible headlights that make night driving a bit scary is that the aircon doesn't work. Lots of glass which is great for visibility but does get hot in there! Seller assured me it used to work but it's been stored unused for a while so maybe leaking? Anyone recommend a really good auto aircon specialist that they would trust with a 39 year old car - somewhere near High Wycombe preferably. thanks Ken
  25. Hi Paul I would guess the oil level sensor is on its way out the only PITA is you cant change it without draining the sump so Oil change time job. Dave
  26. HI all, I am being displayed this image on the dash LED when I turn the car off. Cannot find it referenced anywhere and it seems to show both an oil can and a level indicator as the oil has been checked and is fine as is the rad. Can anyone advise please.
  27. Morning Edward Welcome to the Forum I have to admit I am ignorant of the later 7 series cars but Westfailia were BMW's OEM choice as suppliers. So my starting point would be to find a Westfailia specialist and talk to them Hope this helps Dave

  29. Has anyone found a manufactured trailer hitch that fits or is easily modified to fit a G12? OR Can someone show me pics of their custom made hitch?
