BMW X1 valve cover gasket replacement
Greydog replied to Brummieboy77's topic in BMW X1 Series Forum
Hi Asif Welcome to the Forum First check to find out where the smoke is coming from, once your sure then make a decision on whether you can (a) DIY or (b) pay a garage. If it is the Garage route then an Internet search for BMW Specialists (there is a Register of BMW Specialists) should bring up a couple at least who are not to far from you. Then talk to them about costs etc Good luck Dave -
Hi Tomy Welcome to the Forum When I rebuilt my E53 4.6is I rebuilt the Vanos system from memory the cost was around £65 for all seals and O rings which turned out to be Febi items So are the prices you have for a rebuild kit or a refurbed Vanos ? Dave

Hi everyone, my BMW is due for a VANOS replacement and I’ve found two options with a big price gap: Febi Bilstein (265.19€) - https://onlydrive.pro/parts/camshaft...bilstein-46508 Maxgear (91.29€) - https://onlydrive.pro/parts/gear-spr...axgear-54-1505 Has anyone here used either of these? How do they compare in terms of durability, fitment, and noise after installation? Is the premium for Febi Bilstein worth it, or does Maxgear hold up fine in real-world use?

Hi there all. I recently bought a bmw x1 xdrive 2014. There is smoke entering through the heater vents. Looking online ppl suggested replacing head cover and gasket. Has anyone done it? Is there anyone in Birmingham who can do it? Thank you

2017 430d LED headlight beam adjustment for continental.
Kevmond replied to Kevmond's topic in BMW 4 Series Forum
Thanks for reply. It’s similar to what I’ve read elsewhere then. I parked the car facing a wall, not sure if it’s just me, but there’s a slight kick in the beam pattern towards the nearside. Think I’ll chance it. Many other people claim they don’t bother with any beam deflectors. -
2017 430d LED headlight beam adjustment for continental.
Greydog replied to Kevmond's topic in BMW 4 Series Forum
Morning Kevin I know that there was an adjustment lever for HID's but I thought I read that LED's had a Flat pattern that cant be adjusted. Does your Local BMW Dealer know more I wonder worth asking As an aside my Brother inlaw has a 5 series Estate and does many miles on the other side of the Channel and I don't recall him doing anything, I will have to ask the question Dave - Last week

Good evening all, looking at going to Belgium next week for a night away. Cant see anything in handbook (online or in I drive) regarding driving on the continent that is relevant. It mentions turning off Auto setting and adjust setting in Idrive “settings - lighting - headlights - headlight adaptation” however mine doesn’t have this option to select/change, not does it have adaptive LED lights, just LED’s. Had a look on the rear of the lamps, nothing obvious to swap over (have seen a lever on other models) Any ideas please? Worst case I’ll sling some beam deflectors on.

4 Series Convertible - water collection in sills issue !
Julian Pasiut replied to Julian Pasiut's topic in BMW 4 Series Forum
Hi Anne, Im so sorry if my reply/reaction to your question to me is so late (I have not been well and my attention to all emails has been sloppy to say the least !) Anyhow, my response is that you and I seem to be among the few who have had this problem (at least on Bimmer). It would seem that most people 'just get on with it' and never kick up a stink which means that those it does effect indignantly have little recourse or sway to effect an answer/remedy ! What I'm saying is that there are not enough 4 series convertible owners out there that are outspoken or willing to or have experienced this situation to make any difference, which is a shame for those it has effected. I dont think I can give this any more time now unless someone else wants to raise the issue and carry the flag as I am just a pawn and have no influence. Anyway, thank you for contributing and I hope you have no further issues with your car. Best regards, Julian -

The solution is to also buy a starter motor from a G20 330e, the rest will fit without any problems. The cheapest solution is to buy a Sachs 2295 002 018 replacement dual-mass flywheel and then replace the starter motor with one from a G20 with the correct tooth spacing. The one from the F30 will not fit because it has a different number of teeth.

ECU Testing & Repair Recommenadations Wilts Area
Greydog replied to riber3's topic in BMW 3 Series Forum
Morning Paul There are a few others but these guys are very quick (72hr turnaround) in most cases used them several times for ABS units and a couple of times for ECU repairs big advantage with ECU's FRM etc no recoding needed I have also used Cartronix in Surrey but they were quite expensive and slow, end product was great though (upgraded Radio unit in an E53) Good Luck Dave -

Finally, I did take it the damaged part into BMW but heard nothing........
-
Hi Dave, that is a possibility, over tightening, but I understand the material used does have weaknesses especially when it is cold. I was lucky, the day before Im doing 85 on the motorway, no issue, the next day on start up, part failed and luckily no heat got into the engine before I realised. Hence the question. But good to know there is no actual recommendation to change at intervals. Appreciate the research.
-
Yes, in normal driving mode if you take you foot of the gas you will hear the engine changing down. When in Sport mode however that does not happen unless you are using the manual change down. Check out the video I referenced.

I’m not sure what you mean. Are you saying you get engine braking in non-sport mode?

Morning Darren Welcome to the Forum I take it your previous phone was iphone which it seemed worked OK ? If so as nothing else but the phone has changed this is more a question for Apple than BMW Make sure all previous registrations are cleared on the car then re-register your phone if that doesn't work ask one of the Apple Forums Sorry best I can think of for an Old Android Bloke Dave

I’ve recently change to iphone 17 with iOS 26, since changing, every time I use the voice activation button on the steering wheel to make a call or send a message, it seems to call MY Number. Any help or support or fix would be much appreciated

Hi Rick If you look at www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box it will bring up your Model Then search the Audio section you will find small exploded drawings showing where speakers are for each system. Get the part numbers for the HK stuff then search the internet for the best prices and supply. You could get all the HK stuff and AMP and swap them yourself make sure the under seat speakers are there and working then add a sub if you need it May not be as costly as you think Dave

2019 X1 stereo system upgrade
Ricklaceydrums replied to Ricklaceydrums's topic in BMW X1 Series Forum
Thank you for your help. The car has a big standard speaker setup. It isn’t good. The HK system normally has badges and identifiers but the car has no such markings. im going to fit a sub in the cavity in the boot, some decent mid range in the doors then some tweeters in the door pillars. The job now is to find someone who can do the job properly and not charge a fortune -

Morning Rick Harman Kardon were the top of the OEM line so a starting point is use a Vin Decoder to check what was fitted at build S676A is Hifi S674A is Harman Kardon Next check that all speakers are working including the central base speakers under the front seats. It isn't unusual for door speakers to fail particularly if there has been water ingress. If everything is working but is standard Hifi an upgrade to HK components may give what you want (Speakers Amp etc) If it is already HK then your in the hands of the aftermarket Audio specialists Hope this Helps Dave

OK checked ISTA WIS (Workshop Information System) and spoke with an ex neighbour who works for BMW ISTA first there is nothing to indicate the filter housing should be changed at intervals. There is a Note to say the filter should be inserted into the filter body then the housing screwed by hand into position. If the filter is inserted in the housing there is a danger it can be cross threaded and the housing damaged do not overtighten My ex neighbour says it was a common mistake putting the filter into the housing and tightening that is where they were cracked Dave
