Hi Folks, Am in the UK and about to buy a 40 year old M635csi. I got a quote from Hagarty for classic car limited mileage insurance at around £600 a year. This is based on it having a set agreed value so if it's a total write off or unrecovered that's what they pay you. I was surprised to find that Admiral say they can add it to my other 2 cars, with social and commuting use for me and wife, with European breakdown cover for £260! But that's not on an agreed value basis - but surely they would still have to pay out a fair amount if totalled? Any thoughts on classic Vs regular car insurance here? I kind of assumed Admiral would just not cover it as such an old car - or would be really expensive. thanks Ken

Ha...I just sold my Porsche (2001 Boxster S) and now have a 420D convertible (with remap). The Boxster was a beautiful car and very energetic but my body is getting old and decrepit and falling out onto the pavement to get out was a pathetic display ! Anyhow, we now have a cockapoo and she has her own back seat now !! Wish I had bought a 435D in hindsight but lets see what a year or so in this girl will decide !!! PS Good luck with your new Porsche !!!

Morning Jay Technically there isnt a down pipe there should be a diesel particulate filter (DPF) if there is a single downpipe then it will be aftermarket. DPF's are normally really tough the bit that blows is the flexible pipe at the bottom BMW call it a Decoupling element and still sell them as will a number of aftermaket exhaust suppliers like Bosal Try looking at www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box then check the exhaust section. Once you have the part numbers just use the Internet to find the best deal or as Stu says Quarry have always been helpful Dave

1997 Z3 Runs for a few miles then cuts out
Bimmer Owners Club replied to Brian 23's topic in BMW Z3 & Z4 Series Forum
How have you got on with diagnosing the fault? Had to do a running repair on my Z3 in the week as the original intake trunking had perished and was drawing unregulated air through the hole and the car ran incredibly rough - replaced the part with the new one that I had in the boot for years and runs great now Another thing worth trying when its running on song is using super-unleaded - has made the world of difference the flat spot at around 2000rpm which has disappeared since using the higher octane (and lower ethanol) fuel -

Scraping sound under centre console on hard acceleration.
Kevmond replied to Kevmond's topic in BMW 4 Series Forum
Greydog, Officially the fuel tank needs dropping to replace this bracket as there are locating lugs between the cable bracket (correctly identified as No12 in diagram) and a few fixtures around it. Ive ordered an aluminium replacement for a similar price of £10 to the originals replacement. There is a lovely billet item available for £120, which can be fitted without the need to drop the fuel tank. Although I cannot warrant that cost to myself. Cable ties can be used as a temporary repair, however the exhaust needs lowering in order to remove a heat shield to gain access. I wish I’d “borrowed” some stainless cable ties from work. IMO, if I’m going to that length to make a repair, I may as well go for a permanent fix. Against my wife’s wishes, I’ll no doubt be climbing underneath sometime next week to fix it. I had surgery on my collarbone on Monday due to a mal union following an accident a couple of yrs back. I’ll report back once I’m done, maybe with some pics and a brief guide to assist others. Apparently it’s quite common on F series BM’s. -
Hi, thanks for your input, but I've finally found a lens in Australia. It's exactly the right one, so good result. Phil

Scraping sound under centre console on hard acceleration.
Greydog replied to Kevmond's topic in BMW 4 Series Forum
Hi Kevin Well looking at www.realoem.com it looks as though above the Propshaft you have a bracket to support the Handbrake cables item 6 at the front directly over the Prop and Item 12 to support the split of cables left and right I would start there it may just need replacing or short term a couple of cable ties applied Hope your up and around soon Dave -

Morning all, So my car started making a scraping sound under the centre console when accelerating hard, Ive found on another forum a video with the exact sound I’m experiencing. Turns out it’s due to the handbrake cable clips above the fuel tank breaking and the hand brake cables rub on the prop shaft. Has anyone got any experience with renewing these? Apparently the tank needs to be dropped. People have said that cable ties work well as a cheap alternative. I’d normally climb underneath, play and report my findings, but I’m recovering from an operation at the moment so cannot get underneath for a few weeks. 😕

Hello all Does anyone know which is the cable that is connected to the thermostat heater element, the plug that is on the side of the thermostat housing. I was working in the car and removed the plug from the housing a few months ago and now I do not remember which of the two plugs, there are two identical plugs on flying leads close to each other, is the one that I should connect to the heater element. Many thanks

1999 E46 328ci in Alpine white Current owner since 2006 with 1 previous owner 147k mikes Automatic Service history to 100k 4 keys All booklets A4 folder with al receipts from new Full size alloy in boot CD auto changer Bad bits - needs 2 wings and a bonnet due to corrosion. Corrosion spots around the car as can be seen in the pictures. Glass on passenger mirror fell of but not broken. Air con not holding gas Bleed nipple snapped passenger side rear caliper but not leaking. Original suspension could do with being replaced. Misfiring due to being of the road 4 years! Might be bad fuel or MAF sensor as was fine before. Airbag light on but BMW did a recall so not been in to replace. Owned this car almost 20years and took it of the road 4 years ago as it was needing work every year and I needed a newer family car. I had intensions to restore but have not had the time or money over the years. Not sure if the car is worth much these days but don't want it going to scrap so open to offers. Location NE England Any questions ask away

I would still try the Dismantlers if I recall there was a Register of BMW Dismantlers/Recyclers in the UK it certainly can't hurt. Maybe a complete lamp is the only option Dave
-
Hi Dave, thanks for that. So it appears that BMW stopped production of the lens in 2023. I can find a 2nd hand lamp, but there's a huge cost difference between the lamp and just the glass. Our local BMW dealer has done a worldwide search, and there are no lenses (of the correct part number), in any dealership. And no wrecker is going to sell just the lens. Dilemma.
