  4. Afternoon all, Just collected the X3 from the local (and brilliant) independent - the wing mirror switch over and lens transplant completed - all good and I ended up with a bill for an hour's work which am completely satisfied with. Have just bought another wing mirror for the right side so that will be switched also and will have the plastic cowling both sides re-sprayed to match. Superb job again by AP lads in Colchester.

Morning Gary Welcome to the Forum Looks very pretty and it seems your not afraid to raid the piggy bank looking after it ENJOY Tyres you can fit Non-runflat tyres to runflat rims but not the other way round, it will allow a greater choice of tyre. As your car is Xdrive you need to ensure tyres are correct sizes or you will be raiding the piggy bank for transmission repairs. Not sure about the last part of your post are you selling parts or looking to buy another E46 ? Dave

Thought I’d introduce myself. Bought my x6 4 months ago, and had to immediately change the timing chain. also had to change the tyres for Pirelli p zero runflats. I’d read that you couldn’t put normal tyres on, so contacted bmw uk who sent me to main dealer. Checked with them, and apparently you can put normal tyres on , so will swap to Michelin ps4 and get a compressor and the liquid for them. Changed the oil filter gasket last week, and am now saving up to have the rod bearings, suspension, brakes and bushes done. I bought the car with 2 previous owner, 152k with 10 services done, and other than the issues described, it does 29 or so to the gallon. Here’s a pic. I bought this, as had an e46 325ci, that I had spent 7k on parts for, and had it on a driveway that was private land. It was sorned, but dvla fined me £750 and gave me 7 days to tax it, as they said the land was public. Tried desperately to find a home for it, but couldn’t so had to scrap it😢 I still have the parts, and will have to sell them if I can’t find another car cheap.
  11. Hello Dave Thanks again for your responses. You sound like a really great owner and knowledgeable of the technical stuff. Is there anyway I could contact you for a bit of a natter, maybe by phone? Does this website allow direct comms between members? Thanks hopefully Gerry

  19. Morning Paul Oh Oh sounds as though the condensation/water has got into the electrics. It may be possible to dismantle the unit and change the controls, I would check realoem to see if parts are swappable Dave

  23. Good afternoon all I am looking to sell a 1987 lhd 635csi m6. Can anyone advise what would be a reasonable asking price. The car is in good condition and all original (including the little torch!).I live in central France and it is a very reluctant sale.

  27. Hi, I am on the verge of purchasing a BMW 520d xDrive M Sport (2018). The car is on 121,000 miles. I was wondering if anyone with more knowledge than me can listen to the video on the following link of the engine and see if there are any abnormal sounds showing potential issues? https://streamable.com/j75uf3 I would be really grateful if someone can assist with this as I am a little torn about whether I should go ahead with the purchase. Thanks in advance.
  28. Also now, 'Vertical Aim Control Failure'.
  29. For several months the nearside headlamp unit on my F10 has had condensation and now I'm getting the above warning message from time to time. Could the two be related?
  30. Hi Rhys My guess would be that the diff issue was prior damage and that's why you have New Correct tyres now. There is a Register of BMW Dismantlers worth a Google and try a few others. If you aren't aware try www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box it will call up your model, then search Front axel. When you have the part numbers if you double click the part number you will get a list of alternatives plus a list of other models it was used in. It may help widen the search Dave
  31. Hiya, I've got 275/40 R20 front, 315/35 R20 on the rear, brand new Michelin Latitude Sport3 all round when I got it. That being said, I have no idea how long the diff issue has been there prior to me. Software, yeah I was referring to the infotainment system, only because it's got a 2012 date on it. Certainly not looking to start messing with anything else at the moment, and not looking to buy any software. To be honest, I've used Google Maps on my phone as a SatNav for years, and have been thinking about upgrading the unit for a Android one (I'd get cameras too while I'm there). There's a guy near me that seems to specialise in them, https://www.bavarianwizards.co.uk/ , that I am planning to get in touch with. I spoke to Quarry Wood, and unfortunately they don't have any diffs for me at the moment :( but if they do get one, I'll ask about the handbook. I downloaded a couple of BMW apps yesterday and have found a pdf version, which is better than nothing I guess.
  32. Morning William Welcome to the Forum Yes the N57 and N47 do have a reputation for consuming oil BMW do quote 1ltr per 1000 miles. However a friends X6 needed work on the Turbo when that was done new Turbo seals were installed and his oil consumption has dropped dramatically. I have also read PCV leaks or issues can cause higher consumption The pipes, Turbo to Intercooler and Intercooler to Inlet Manifold are clip on, and if they are not seated correctly or the sealing ring is damaged they can give issues. So make sure the connection is clean and the sealing ring in good condition Dave

  36. Hi, new to the forum and BMW! Bought a very good spec X6 , 80k miles. Online it says the N57t can use 1 ltr of oil per 1000 miles - is that right? The air duct pipe recently came off at the bottom, doesn’t seem much to hold it in place- should I use a tiewrap on it? (Also had a bit of smoke/vapour when I pulled over, I assumed it was because the pipe came off, hasn’t ‘smoked’ again’ since) any help appreciated. Thank you Bill
