  1. I do it for a living buying selling sorting BMW, people ask for advice on forums and I gave it, its not my money sorting it but if it does melt will you chip in to help him out? I see it happen loads, take my advice or not I don't care! Regards Steve
  2. Anything can be done Simon but I would doubt its worth cost, or find one that's getting broken to get the seats, looms, switches wiring harness etc etc Regards Steve
  3. Kenneth your diesel engine is a great engine and not complicated but anybody with an E60 , E90 or newer 4 or 6 cylinder should leave well alone they cant take it, its been my job for 27 years and solely BMWs for the last 10, Regards Steve
  4. Jamie don't do that!!! Its madness why f%%k it all up for little or no gain and it will melt the engine leave it well alone and you will null and void your warranty if anything whatsoever goes wrong!!!! Regards Steve
  5. Glad you got it sorted out in the Simon, as for taking off DPFs and EGR valves and remapping its all a joke, I see BMW diesel engines melted after this 6-10 times a year, all warranties are null and void because its the first thing that's checked, my advice to all is BMW spends 100s of millions on development but somebody can destroy your car in under a year with a laptop, leave well alone or have a spare 4-6 GRAND to sort it. Regards Steve
  6. Coil packs after such a period of time would be my guess. Regards Steve
  7. Please take the pic of the C6 down, it can only be you and Daz that are fans of it on this forum, but your E39 looks nice they are a great car and huge value for money now days. Regards Steve
  8. Autotrader is your best bet Ben. Regards Steve
  9. Should be loads on E-bay Regards Steve
  10. MV2s are off of any E46 Sport coupe or saloon from 2003 onwards, all tyres are at least 4mm ranging to 6mm. I do have a set of M3 alloys but they are copies, 19" by 9" wide but they are non staggered so they would probably fit but you may want to check on that. Regards Steve
  11. Sorry mate no they wont fit as they are to wide on the back for your car. I do have a set of 18" MV2s with tyres that will fit your car. Am in north east Scotland. Regards Steve
  12. Only way to get to the root of the problem is to get it put on a diagnostic and find out for sure where the fault or faults are. Regards Steve
  13. Hi Sam you could try a gearbox oil and filter change but sorry mate I think its on its way out. Regards Steve
  14. Lyndsey I have seen many times what you have explained and it has always been caused by a different brand being fitted IE say you had 4 Dunlops and replaced the 2 worn ones with a different brand sometimes they just don't get on together, best to keep all 4 matching is my advice. Regards Steve
  15. Google why do I have a sore head? Regards Steve
  16. Hi George not to many of us here in Scotland, welcome to the forum Regards Steve
  17. Daz mate I have had a brainwave (no smart ##### comments please!!!!) Your car has went into transport/ shipping mode IE the way they arrive at the dealership!!! Why I don't know but I am fairly sure if you get the software download that Greydog told you about you will be able to unlock the function and all will be back to normal, its a hunch but a good one! Regards Steve
  18. 19 Parallel alloys from an E38 sport or E39 sport look good on a 7. Regards Steve
  19. Rob Mini were offering an eggshell service for £700 + VAT a few months back Mr Dabbsy would be the one to ask about that as to what extra work is involved in for your car. I have used Terraclean many times as I am a car dealer and we get this crap all the time with old diesels that just get taken to the supermarket and church and it always works for us so my theory for your car is good but we haven't had a diesel as bad as that but we did have a petrol Mini Cooper S that just would not get out of its own way 2 hours later it drove like a hot rod. No mate its not so much the labour in taking the head off of yours for a rebuild its the machine work that's costly, BMW wont do that they will put it out to a machine shop for that and a grand wont come close. Regards Steve
  20. Rob I have been thinking about this and the way I see it you have nothing to lose! You stated that after the Terraclean service was carried out the car was better so it proved it worked to a degree, but what I am thinking of is going to need the Terraclean guys agreement and probably more money! Am going to put this simple because I am, when your good lady burns the Sunday roast and the pan looks like only an angle grinder will clean it what does she do???? She leaves it soaking so all the gunk will soften up, well that's whats wrong with your X3. When a Terraclean service is carried they hook their machine up to your car and they start the process by starting your car with the fuel that's in the tank then they switch a clever little valve over so as it runs on their formula in the machine, now their fuel is 50% diesel and 50% pig !Removed!, and no am not being funny that's what it is ,but they call it ammonia and they run your car for a few moments and then shut it off so as the pig !Removed! gets round everything so as it softens the carbon, with me so far? Now this is where you need the guy to be up for it, IE an extra long soak, longer the better to my mind, they will have given your car a 15-20 min soak then started it up and finished the process, hours were my thoughts longer the better! If the guy goes along with this hair brained scheme and you get the car back go and find a duel carriageway and drive it like it wasn't yours, you don't have to be going fast but the revs need to be high, IE above 2750 rpm because you have to get the soft carbon out so as it doesn't gunk up again and if it works stop using supermarket diesel (they call it bio diesel because its got chip fat in it) and make a point of giving it a good run at least once a month! Keep us posted if you decide that I haven't got a screw loose! Regards Steve
  21. Sorry Rob but BMW have answered your question, its a common problem with old diesels that just get plodded around town run on supermarket diesel, both problems are one and the same as its coked up beyond anything other than the head off, de-coke and rebuild, Terraclean was your only hope mate. Find a specialist BMW repairer in your neck of the woods as the prices they quoted you are mental for either job! Regards Steve
  22. Mister D from a man with the size of blade such your own I take that as high praise but also am aware that only you do the jokes! Regards Steve
  23. Hi Maz a Z3 is a great little car hope you enjoy it and welcome to the forum. Regards Steve
