  1. Each Key should have a chip that once programmed will read a rolling code provided by the car. Once used I didn't think they could be used on another car But as the old saying goes "we learn something new everyday" Fingers crossed it works Dave
  2. Morning Andy Welcome to the Forum You have responded to a 2 year old post, sadly many people do not close out posts and after 2 years may not even own the car anymore Dave
  3. Morning Dave Your car is the same as all BMW's since iDrive was introduced in 2006/2007 the only change since then is the key only needs to be in the car not in a slot You must be sitting in the car and windows closed Put the fob into the slot (the radio will work but no ignition) Position 1, remove and replace 5 times remove fob hold down the unlock button while pressing the BMW logo 3 times then release the unlock button. Then push the Fob into the slot to turn on the ignition, if the Ignition comes on and the car starts your Fob should be programmed Obviously if the Fob won't program something is wrong. Back to my question is it a Genuine BMW KEY if it is your dealer will program it if you can't manage. If it isn't a BMW key then contact the supplier and ask them How to program it. But if it isnt a Genuine key be ready to ask for a refund As I said before a BMW Dealer will need Vin number and proof of ownership then order a key from the Factory. The key will arrive with the blade cut and Fob ready for programming which the Dealer will be happy to do Dave
  4. Select accept Motorways Ferries and Tolls then it should keep you out of the undergrowth 🤣 Dave
  5. Hmmm BMW would not supply a blank key so I am guessing this is an after market Key. Have you been able to pair the Fob with your car? Before spending money on key cutting try to pair the Fob Dave
  6. Morning Nick Welcome to the Forum Check www.realoem.com put the last 7 Digits of your Vin in the search box then search the engine section to find where it is Then take a look at the car to see what is in the way (how much stuff needs removing) then if your happy crack on. Use the part number from realoem to get the parts needed Good luck Dave
  7. Morning Stuart First simple test "try your speaker" if it works then the next bit is will it fit? If it does then mount it and put everything back, that I think will be the test to see if you have a change in sound quality between OEM and the replacement. If your like me "tone deaf" if it works great 😁😁 Dave
  8. Morning Spencer Welcome to the Forum Are you sure you are not a Truck Driver 🤣 I thought they were the ones stuck down lanes where they can't turn around Check settings look for "Use Motorways" or similar it may be set on shortest route or something similar Enjoy your exploring in your X1 Dave
  9. Morning Dermot If your on the www.realoem.com site and find the item you need double click the Part Number and you will get a list of other models it was used on and any alternates Dave
  10. Hi Taysir So after you diagnostic scan and no fault is your Trans performing as it should? I have never heard of a Trans Specialist re-using Fluid. It is like like draining old oil from the engine changing the filter and putting the old oil back ??? You just wouldn't do it. As said the old fluid will contain all sorts of contaminants which he just put back?? Dave
  11. My money is on a drain George
  12. Morning Dermot Welcome to the Forum Check www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box it will bring up your model, then search the section you need. You will find the Part Number for the OEM part. Then use that for your Internet search that way any items you find should fit. There are many out there Sachs, Bilstein, Monroe to name a few Good Hunting Dave
  13. Morning John Just your Beemer testing if your still awake (the Bong is a Wallet alert) 🤣 I guess you got your Tyre man to check pressures then reset the system, after the button pushing the car doesn't actually reset until 30km/ph is reached. If there had been a previous alert not reset something may have woken it up (and you) For your Radio back to reading the book and perseverance, I have the essentials in mine R2, R4, R5 and the CD works. Dave
  14. Morning Mobeen Even with BMW's early i-bus system components that communicate with each other or allowed pass through signals to reach others could be swapped. However they didn't always operate as they should or allow their full operation. They needed not programming but registering to the cars chassis to allow full functionality. I would start by checking all body earth points, BMW love multiple earth points and earth switching so make sure they are good being parked up could have allowed corrosion to start, it wont take much. Use www.realoem.com to check if any enabling codes are needed for the audio/nav system. The steering angle sensor normally calibrates itself if the car is driven forward while going lock to lock What diagnostic system are you using Dave
  15. Morning Taysir Welcome to the Forum As your "mechanic" had drained the transmission and removed the sump and filter to change solenoids he then put back using old contaminated Fluid and possibly/probably a used contaminated filter ????? it just doesn't make sense. Find another transmission specialist (preferably ZF) and get the trans diagnosed and the fluid flushed and changed Good Luck Dave
  16. Hi John Original Equipment when the car was new I believe would have been Bridgestone Potenza RE 050 Run Flats Fronts 245x40xR19 94W Rears 275x35xR19 96W Many have ended up with non run flat tyres either because people didn't like the slightly harsher ride or more often availability when tyre change time came around. Good call on the locking wheel nuts there are enough light fingered little !Removed!'s around don't make life easy for them Dave
  17. Sad end to your X5 story Rod Lets hope the scum who took it get something incurable I hope you find a good replacement Dave
  18. Morning John Tyre sizes are correct for 19" staggered set up, as the tyre makes are different I guess the rears have been changed due to the fact they have worn quicker 😁 (enthusiastic driving) Tyre pressures are normally in the manual and should be 35psi all round IIRC ENJOY it Dave
  19. Morning George Sorry don't recognise it Where does it come from ? If it comes from the scuttle area it could be part of the scuttle and roof drain system. Have a look at www.realoem.com it may give some clues? Dave
  20. Morning Mobeen Battery may be new but is it fully charged ? Is the alternator output correct and charging the battery You have replaced a large number of parts so start there 1. Were they correct for your model (use a Vin decoder to get the original build sheet) and www.realoem.com for part numbers 2. Were they coded in to the cars system or just swapped? 3. If the replaced items are correct and coded correctly then check all earth points, BMW are fond of using body earth points with multiple connections. They are also fond of using earth switching so any poor connections can cause havoc. Remember that some functions need an enabling code from BMW (I know they just don't like us tinkering with "their cars" that they conveniently forget we have paid for) Good Luck Dave
  21. That is very nice looking car John Enjoy it and keep it shiny 😁 Dave
  22. Hi Stuart Great result I believe there is like a double skin effect so yes moisture/water can still be present trapped between the two. That is why the silica gel trick works so well it helps absorb the hidden moisture just make sure you can get them out and change them a few times. Dave
  23. New Key Programming Correct or re-programming a Key that has had a new battery fitted To buy a new key go to your BMW Dealer they will need the Vin and for some sight of the Registration in your name Beware of cheap keys online Dave
  24. Hi Dave Welcome to the Forum Try this First, put your BMW key in the ignition, rapidly turning it to position 1. Quickly do this 5 times in a row. Then, take your key out of the ignition. Press the BMW logo on your BMW key fob 3 times while holding down the unlock button. Let go of the unlock button after the third time you’ve pressed the BMW Logo Good Luck Dave
  25. OK can you not raise the car and through the engine bay pull the bonnet release cable, once you have access to the engine bay you should be able to change the battery and power the door locks The only car I have had real problems with had no battery fitted at all Good Luck
