  1. Hi all… what’s the best way to locate a power drain? basically, I have changed the boot on the x5 and since then, the battery keeps going flat. I have no shorts anywhere and I had an issue where the boot release button would turn the interior light on.. I have disconnected that but still have a drain issue. Wiring diagrams are of little insight. … anyone got any tips, time is not on my side as I have limited rest between work and crazy children! 😂 cheers! stu
  2. Great write up and well done! chinesium is indeed the worlds finest!
  3. Hi Stewart. Removing the aircon clutch isn’t a massive job on the 4 cylinders. I haven’t done a 6 cylinder one yet, but I’m sure it’s a bit of a squeeze and access from below would be the best option. stu.
  4. Having a look round it, I’m a bit shocked… it’s quick, it’s big , it’s loud…. But it doesn’t have memory seats, auto tint mirror, auto lights or parking assist and even a stereo which my phone can connect to… it has a built in wired sim carded phone! Haha. it’s basically a big engine with a cool box in the glove compartment. 😂 … and it only has 18” wheels…. the X5 has started again and seems content that it’s not getting replaced. Vive le Bimmer!
  5. I’ll line the fleet up when the x5 starts! I must have a drain from the rear bootlid somewhere… I’ll look when I get chance
  6. ….. went to set off…. Diva has a flat battery! Haha
  7. Well….. the drop top pug is getting kicked out soon… I went on eBay and made a cheeky bid. off to pick up a nice 4.5 v8 Porsche cayenne up on Saturday !! ironically I won it while I was registering my wife on a speed awareness course 🙄 let’s see how many times the X5 is going to have a hissy fit when this one turns up. 😂
  8. Hi Jay. have you tried quarry motors?
  9. Mine kept doing that and it was the throttle body. I would be looking around the air intake and hoses. Disconnect the maf sensor and see if any values change on the live data on the software.
  10. Morning Adam. my x5 was showing o2 sensor issues and lean mixture etc…. Turns out the throttle body was at fault. Clear the adaptations and take it for a spin. i was amazed how much power I had lost once replaced the throttle body. also check for splits in the intake line.. the rubber pipes between the throttle body and the MAF sensor as this will give lean readings and O2 issues with over fueling.
  11. Thanks Dave! mine is a 2002 3.0 petrol. the donor is a 2001 3.0 petrol. You’re a star for looking…. Or is it a slow day? Haha cheers!
  12. Morning James. first try quarry motors in Sheffield. They are really helpful.
  13. Hi Dave. Check to see if you can see the silver cable behind the lever in the footwell. If it’s still there, get some mole grips/ pliers on it and pull! if it’s not there, then it’s snapped and you’re destined to removing the kidney grills on the bonnet and manually opening the bonnet by cutting the plastics to locate the latches and remains of the cable… just done an x5 one and it was a right pain!
  14. Well…. All the bits are swapped over, so I now have a pile of scratched panels on the driveway. amazing how the wiring looms are all different colours between cars of the same models! i managed to get all lights and wipers working but for some bizarre reason, pressing the unlock button on the top bootlid just illuminates 1 interior light and doesn’t operate the lock! lol….. anyone got a wiring diagram? send the list over Dave, I’m sure I’ll find something I need or don’t need but will find a use for! Haha. … and I still can’t fathom the reversing sensors !
  15. Oh dear! Mine runs on windows 7. Can you get a copy of 7/ xp? create a second partition or run a virtual machine? I didn’t think about windows 11… or does anyone you know have an old laptop
  16. You need to remove the module from the car and scrape the microchips coating to read it. It’s not difficult if you follow the imstuctions
  17. Hi Norm, great news on the grandchild. Hope you had a great time. here is a video of a great step by step guide. my ews module is on the drivers side footwell… (rhs ) it’s a light grey box, looks like a cigarette box size. it’s a faff to do at the start, but once you understand how to read and write, it’s a breeze.
  18. Guess that’s my weekend sorted! either that, or I’m sleeping on the sofa as the spare bed is now taken! 😂
  19. Lift the car up and see if the wheel moves freely when the handbrake is off. then its brake disc pads without copper grease.
  20. My immediate guess is the handbrake shoes are too tight. People forget they are in there, separate from the disk pads. how old are brakes?
  21. Update! … bonnet and boot sourced and awaiting delivery from a very nice guy who breaks BMWs… Tim at bmw classic spares in Northampton. once they are on, I’ll set about polishing the whole car and try to hide the side scratches. It’ll be like a new un!
  22. The doors should polish out with a good t cut and paint pen…. The bonnet is deeply scratched… my wife got caught at 71 in a 60… going uphill in the diesel convertible… lord knows what it would have been in the X5. 😂 im now back at work, enjoying the silence!
  23. …. And my wife just got a speeding ticket! I’m going to find a corner to cry in!
  24. Ironically, he used the drill bit I was looking for to attach the number plate to the new caravan…. I gave up trying to redecorate the other one him and his sister painted! 😂😫🙄🙄🙄
