Looking to purchase first ever BMW,

Have my eye on few 5 series 07 520d models

I need some opinions re the engine

Is it better shelling but extra for the 3Ltr for economy or is the 3Ltr purely for power?.

Thanks

The 2ltr is a real workhorse for its size but for a 5series I would have to opt for the 3ltr merely due to the extra weight of the car and mucho power ! ;)

NICE ! A tad overpriced, they've gone for the spec to get a sale... Much of the spec you will find on "lesser" models (differences are mainly cosmetic plus tighter suspension upgrade) so don't go in rubbing your hands thinking its special... On the plus side it has below average milage, a lovely colour and has been maintained.

Ask who was the previous owner !

Welcome to the club, I've recently changed from a 2.5 petrol to a 2.0d and Im more than happy with the performance, but as Dabsy said the 3.0 maybe a better option in the 5, nice looking motor
