Hi All just taken over the reigns of my Mums z3 2.8 on a 98 reg

shes not serviced her for a while and I can tell. The roof leaks etc but I can handle that myself however

Battery dies 12 hrs after charging - alternator?

No heating unless its at a standstill - ????

Engine temperature never leaves cold

mayo under filler cap -

It all points me to the headgasket but I have read other people saying the thermostat being stuck open would cause all these issues :/

any ideas?

Guest Mister Dabsy

Thermostat stuck open would only cause the engine to run cold and not cause the beige mulch !

This mulch will have been caused by either a failed head-gasket or cracked head.

Maybe in the past, this thermostat was stuck closed causing these faults then releasing after time with its spring ??!!

Either way matey, I think the head has to come off eventually !!

Short-term fixes are - New stat and water-pump plus a small bottle of K-Seal... If only to buy some time before you sort the head-gasket ;)

As above mate...

But just a question, has it been standing a long time and now only doing very short journeys?

Thats just clasping at straws and hoping the HG hasn't gave up...I rekon Dabsy is right though.

Get the head off mate, get it tested.

I'd park her up too as you could be causing more damage driving her around..

Bad news I know, I've had a HG go on a BMW recently..
