Hi there,I,m having a starting problem with my beloved E39 525d tourer switch ignition on and if I can,t hear fuel pump under passenger floor it won,t start I,ve replaced this pump its improved things a little seems worse when its cold but worse still if its wet I,m thinking theres a connection somewhere needs cleaning and sealing from wet not sure where to look.

Is the fuel-pump cover present?

Check relay too.

Was going to say Relay as it's one of the obvious ones but.... Doesn't really sound like a Relay problem?

Doesn't to me either but it could be the wiring to/from it.

thanks for all your replies yes its due for a service,I,ve never changed glowplugs but its definetly linked to wether the inline pump works if it starts or not am I right that the relay is near the battery if it was the glow plugs wouldnt it run lumpy when it started it runs fine when it starts and it never misses a beat while its running,It is without doubt one of the best cars I,ve ever had so it would be nice to solve this little niggle.Someone else said is it low on fuel.it was worse like this till I changed the fuel pump so I know what you mean.
