  1. just thinking if its ignition switch why does it only do it first thing or when its been stood a while, think maybe diagnostics is the thing is it possible to plug a lap top into it if you,d got the right lead.Thought the other day it had improved since it warmed up but the last two days have,nt been all that cold and its took a few minutes trying to get it to start, got a mate whose a bit good with diagnostics maybe I,ll have to admit defeat and go and see him.On the subject of the pump buzzing for a long time yea I,ve wondered about that never really waited to see how long it lasts you,d think it would only work a few seconds till it needed more fuel
  2. Hi folks,a couple of replies to my last entry mentioned the fuel pump relay which I thought could be the answer so I replaced it a couple of days ago also tried to check wiring everything seems ok but I havent tried any meters not sure how.The problem is no better you switch on either first thing or after the cars been stood a while as soon as I switch on if I can't here the underfloor pump I know it won't start then after a few tries the pump can be heard and it fires up no problem once its running it does'nt miss a beat seems worse if its wet the cold does'nt seem to affect it,its a shame because its putting me right off don't trust it any more
  3. Hi there just introducing myself my car is a 02 reg 525d tourer was a bit neglected when I got it but I didnt pay top money for it I,ve actually had it 2 years and been a member but had a rough time with other stuff so never got involved on here.Love the car but still needs a little more effort to get it sorted a few years ago I also had a very handsome 89 520 with low profiles on it.Not sure how much to put live in Sheffield also got a old boat I,m renovating to be honest thats why the car doesnt get the attention it deserves.
  4. thanks for all your replies yes its due for a service,I,ve never changed glowplugs but its definetly linked to wether the inline pump works if it starts or not am I right that the relay is near the battery if it was the glow plugs wouldnt it run lumpy when it started it runs fine when it starts and it never misses a beat while its running,It is without doubt one of the best cars I,ve ever had so it would be nice to solve this little niggle.Someone else said is it low on fuel.it was worse like this till I changed the fuel pump so I know what you mean.
  5. Hi there,I,m having a starting problem with my beloved E39 525d tourer switch ignition on and if I can,t hear fuel pump under passenger floor it won,t start I,ve replaced this pump its improved things a little seems worse when its cold but worse still if its wet I,m thinking theres a connection somewhere needs cleaning and sealing from wet not sure where to look.
