Hi Guys

I'm completley new to this and need some help.

I own a MK4 Golf TDI at the moment and want a change.

I have about £2500/£3000 to spend on a Beemer, i want a Diesel.

I've been looking online and have found a few 320 2.0 TD SE with around 100k miles on the clock for this sort of money.

Are these any good or should i be looking at a diffrent model?

I think its an E46? like i said though i don't know much about the E numbers etc so don't really know what im looking for.

What's a good reliable BMW diesel and what should i look out for?

Thanks in advance

Yes Yes Yes.

2001 320d with100k looking from £1500-£2800 depending on condition, service history etc

I am on my 2nd 320d but also own a 330ci, I preffer the 320ds all day long

One with full service history will be a good buy.

Research swirlflaps and get them blanked off.

Bushes will need changing if not already done but wont cost too much.

In my opinion mate, the 320d is the best value for money car on the market at the moment.

Go for it, you wont regret it.

Cool thanks Gav.

Yeah i heard about swirl flaps. How much am i looking at to get them removed do you think?

Also a few people are saying turbos are common to fail?? What about cambelts?

On another note is it ok to map a car of this millage? Will i see good gains? My Golf went from 115bhp to 150, but got really torquey. Is a beemer simalar?

This any good?

I'm sure I recognise your username from somewhere. What have you previously driven?

Correct me if I'm wrong, did you do a photoshoot with your car for Basshunter?

Muhaha! I knew I was right :) I seem like a stalker now lol.. You were friends with my ex boyfriend but this is going back years! Anyway hello :)

Hey Nick,

Welcome to the BMWOC. From a technical point of view, I share Gav's enthusiasm. If you need a diesel, the E46 is the way to go. Out of all the diesels out there right now, I know what one I would want sitting under me.

Keep us in the loop!

Daz

*Edit: Just to add. If I was on the market for one, I would prefer a 330d. I'm not a massive fan of 4-Cylinder engines and atleast if you get a 6 banger, you can still hear that famous bmw I6 rawr ( If you listen hard enough and ignore the diesel knocks :P )

Ahh what's his name?

e46 320d is def a good way to go :)

And kudos on your other cars :)

Yeahhhhh 330d is the way forward =]

Thatll prob be my next BM move (if not an M3) !! Then a mega remap on it :)

seeing as recently got hold a 320d and how me and Gav love to disagree I am going to put my thoughts into this. It is indeed a cracking little car and my one has more toys on than most 5 series however I really do miss the smooth running of a 6 so I think i would go for a 330d.

Although only go for the Diesel if you do the Mileage, we had a 525d here at work as a pool car for a while and i have to be honest the fuel bill was only slighter better(if at all) than my mega miles petrol 6 pot, and with petrol being 10p a litre cheaper than Diesel around here you need to look past the MPG and look more at the cost of fuel, the price difference in 2nd hand petrol cars vs Diesel( you will get much more with a petrol).
