HI everyone, I have only just joined the forum and I'm looking for a bit of advice. I am going to be buying my first BMW soon and have singled out a 1987 325i Convertible. I will be going to view it in the next week or so.

I have read the buyers guides etc on here but wondering if there is anyone out there with a similar model who could give me a few pointers on what to look out for, (leaky roof etc).

Any help or pointers would be appreciated.

Thanks!!

Welcome to the BMWOC buddy, i'm sure we can iron out anything on ur mind regarding this motor :)

We have quite a few Savvi members and I know the E30s engines quite well. Anything specifically troubling you? If you post it, maybe I can assist later when im not at work on an iPhone :)

Thanks guys and girls!

Nothing is worrying me really just wanted to know any common problems that are going to cost me a lot of money in the future! I know that the car I am going to be viewing has just had a new roof fitted and it has done around 130k miles.

Really I am just after some mechanical pointers as I'm not familiar with BMW engines! Finally seen the light after 5 years owning a Renaultsport Clio lol

Thanks

Try the obvious... Service history etc... Like when did she have a full service last... Whats the milage? Those engines can live well beyond 250K ;)

The M20 shes fitted with is a VERY strong engine, as Daz just said. There are no common problems that I know of other then, if a parts ganna go, its ganna go..

Again, as Daz said; Service history, Service history, Service history.

*Take note* The M20 engine is a bit of a... Sewing machine. In the sense, it sounds a bit like.. a Sewing Machine. That is normal :) it's knocking noises your looking for
