Basicly Im just wondering if my 1998 e36 316i compact is fitted with an alarm system. How to i test it and where is it located in the car.

Thanks

Sam

TBH, the majority of BMW's were "Belled" ! What shape key-fob(s) do you have?

No... It does have Central locking...

Your fob is the 3 button identical to mine...

The bottom-left button is Unlock, bottom-right should be boot release... I suspect the boot-motor or the wiring to it, maybe a fuse

Ahhh, that may be the search fuction where it puts the h/lights on in a car park to find it (as it were) !

It doesn't turn headlights on just the interior ones unless somethings unplugged. Haha I need an expect to come look at it

I'll be there in ten minutes !! Hahahahaha :P

(Merged this back on topic for you) !

The pics are a little blurred but looks like you found the issue !

Will the nylon holder twist enough for the rod to attach? If it will, maybe wrap an elastic-band around it !!

  • Author

just removed the motor and found that the part that which the rod fits into was laying on the inside boot pannel so may need a quick fix of glue to see if that holds untill i can afford a new motor

I will go try it now lol is this how they usually get fixed?

thanks

No

Does the motor buzz when you press lock/unlock? If not, check wiring first before you start spending your beer-money on a new motor !

its all connected proper and it moves back n forward when i press the the lock/unlock button. I just removed it and it seems a piece has snapped off it. I will upload a picture as i can be quite confusing.

Deffo linkage if motor works matey !! Good find ;)

BTW, super-glue won't hold it !

  • Author

dam it lol new motor needed then hopefully get one cheap enough. spent a few quid on it already and only had it 2 months i think.

But motor WORKS, don't buy another... Just botch the linkage, it'll be hidden behind trim anyway !!

Don't be silly mate... This is why I'm here :P

Maybe bend the rod-end enough and throw some DUCT-TAPE around it to complement your super-glue !

OR... Acquire some tube and clamp together?

I am an "Old-Skool" Fixer... Saves money and it's not Rocket-Science :D
