bmw 316i compact 1998 1.6 The rad makes a bubbling sound and sounds a little like a heartbeating, both hoses are hot as hell and quite burning. smoke belted out yesterday because i was stuck in traffic and it was coming from top hoase/rad cap. I got about 2/3 miles tonight then it started overheating again. I tried bleeding the system alot but it still overheats

oh yeah there is a fan and its constently on

Might see if I can buy a head off someone and replace the gasket cheap

the thermostat and pump was replaced though bud, all brand new parts were fitted, I have it listed for sale but I would love to save it :(

Hey guys I'm just wondering if I can get some help on an issue I have been having for a while on my 316i compact. Basically it's over heating big time and I just got a waterpump and thermostat replaced as the other waterpump had sheered to bits. I have pumped just over 400 quid in parts into my car for to get this in decent condition and the overheating issue is the worse I've had with the car. Is there anything else I need to do. I've blead the system out and put in water, coolant and anti freeze into the rad and I'm not sure what else to do. Thanks. Sam

Sorry for not replying sooner guys. I found out it was the pipe coming off the injectors spraying petrol all over the engine and ground. My mechanic said I was lucky the car didnt go on fire which scared the hell out of me. Cost for to have got that sorted was £90 that was for supplying the pipe and fitting it. Leaving it up again tomorrow for a new rad and powersteering pump setting me back £200 is this an over charge or is this a decent price? bearring in mind all fluids will be put back in. Also will that solve my car not giving any heat inside the car? I checked the thermostat and it seemed in good condition. and I am not sure what else to check, One thing I was being told was the heater matrix could be gone but how heatic is that to change and price ranging from? Would I be able to get my car towed upto the garage without the car started but the key turned? Yeah its made me kinda self concious about driving it when its fixed. Its still got loads of mot untill jan 2013 I thought it would all be perfect condition. I just cant wait to get it all fixed so I can try not to worry anymore.

its a 316i compact e36 1998, I only discovered the leak yesterday afternoon and when I tried starting the car today it wouldnt start so i assume the petrol is well empty. It seems like its coming from directly under the engine i am not sure if this is enough info so I can try and put some fuel in to see excat position of leak. I have had to top up the PAS reservoir few times and the first time it seemed to have this black oil'y like substance weather thats the original fluid or not i dont know. I will try the power steering ideas and will feedback on anything i find out. I have been told to take it to the garage on wed but I would just like a general idea of whats going on and if it will cost mega bucks to fix. Thank you

I have discovered a leak under my car which I can only assume is petrol by the smell., It gushes out like I discovered when I was picking my sister up from work. It is coming from the front end of my car and I was looking to see if anyone has a possible solution on where it could be coming from. I also seem to be leaking power steering fluid but how difficult is it to fix these problems and is there someone who can walk me through it? Thanks very much Sam

Cheers matey, I think it all may be on hold now. ive got fuel leaking from my car and all the problems with it are getting worse. I might end up selling the car myself and getting another 316i it hs really wound me up

a 1998 316i compact E36 I am in need of some parts to get my car back to some what standard to keep it going as smooth as possible. TBH I am looking them as cheap as possible and anything I can do to help I will return the favour. Things I would be after is as follows: Wing Driver side Parcel Shelf Gear knob Boot gas shocks (mine dont keep the boot up) Window switch holder Front/Rear Wiper motors plastic covers that hold the parcel shelf in place Think thats all Thanks very much Sam

Hey guys, Me again! :D I have been noticing alot of wear to my wheels but I am not sure that these are the correct size for my car. Also when i turn the wheel on full lock the break pedel seems to be vibrating alot like the wheels is doing some sort of scrubing. these are my sizes of tyres on my car (steel rims) 185/65/R15 88H DRIVERS FRONT 185/65/R15 88V PASSENGERS FRONT 195/65/R15 91H DRIVERS REAR 195/65/R15 91H PASSENGERS REAR Thanks

I have started to hear a sort of humming noise/grinding coming from my e36 when i start it up then suddenly move the steering wheel a little. Does ATF mean for the power steering pump or something else? Also what oil do I put in, could someone recommend me a good but affordible oil? I am sorry about all these problems, maybe i should have shopped better for a 316i compact lol Thanks Sam

sorry for not getting back sooner guys. yeah blead it all out and its all 100% now, this also may be a silly question but is the temp gauge always ment to be sitting half way between hot and cold? also I had to take the fan off the other day to check thermostat but does it go back on a certain way as when i put it back on it seems to be clipping the fan cover and stops moving? sorry for making a pigs dinner of this lol Thanks

lol yeah it is confusing at times fs, ***UPDATE*** I changed said pipe and now its still going in the red after a while does anyone know what else this could possibley be ? need the car to go to england to see family :( Thanks

yeah getting the proper fix, would rather it was fixed than have it blow up on me and the child wrecking the car on holiday
