Where does the mpg gauge on my 96 316i get the information from? mine doesn't appear to be working, when I turn the ignition on the needle moves right across to one side never to be seen again.

It generally gets its info from ECU Mixture Control and Vac sensors... Is everything working fine in the dash?

I would have a close look at the Vacuum pipes and induction pipes too... If all is not torn/leaking and tight then it has to be a sensor !
