Car in question is an E36 318 ti 1.9 Compact. The gear selector has gone and it often jumps out of first gear when pulling away. I gather its easier to just stick a new box on, and you can get them pretty cheap. Is the box specific to a compact? Or will any box do? Is there a different box that will fit that will improve performance? Different ratios? Thanks Mike.
