hi ive recently bought a bmw 316 its a oldish one p reg,the only problem ime having up to now is locking- unlocking it using the key fob it was fine when i got it,but only the day after it stoped working. the key fob is ok new batterys and lights up when you press the button, but will not opperate the central locking or the alarm and the little red light inside the car dose not flash anymore its off all the time any advice would be appriciated. thanks mark t

Hi and welcome...............it could be that your key fob needs reprogramming if you have replaced the battery

i hope this helps a little:

1. Working from within the vehicle and with the doors shut

2. Turn ignition to position 1 and back to off within 5 seconds.

3. Remove the key from ignition and press and hold the unlock button for 15 seconds during this time press the key lock button 3 times within 5 seconds.

4. Release both buttons.

5. Doors will lock and unlock to show correct programming has occurred.

ive looked this up on the net and havent tried it myself but it may help if you want to risk trying it.......other than that id pop itinto a garage who will probably know how to do it for you..

check inside the drivers foot well if youve got a 'valet switch' as if uve knocked this to 'on' the alarm wont set !!
