I have just bought a 2006 X5 3.0D Sport, complete with Comms pack/TV/Navigation. The on-board computer display is in French and, despite what it says in the user manual, there is no language option in the menu. Can anyone help?

Guest Mister Dabsy

Vous avez la possibilité de sélectionner languge!

Vous devez avoir Paramètres / section Configuration ...

You do have the option to select languge !

You must have a Settings/Setup section...

Thanks for the replies. Dabsy: There is a settings/set-up menu, but, despite what it says in the handbook/operating instructions, there is no option for changing the language or, for that matter, the display colours. Since I made the original post, I have discovered that, if I switch off the camera alert feature, the display language reverts to English, but goes back to French as soon as I switch it on again. Very strange.

Gav: As far as I know it is the right manual. The reason I know that the camera alert function is involved is that I found reference to it during a long google search. My car has a DVD software update disc for the satnav, which had been installed by the previous owner and I suspect there is a glitch within that update. There is also reference on google to BMW dealers being able to cure the problem bu warning drivers that it might take all day. You can imagine what that would cost at BMW dealer service rates! Now I know that switching off camera alert cures the problem, I can live with it.

Now all I've got to do is work out how to pair my i-phone.

Pairing I phone is easy pair it from the phone go to settings then to blue tooth they search for devices with ignition on when it's found your car kit just press pair then as long as blue tooth is on it will pair auto when in car

Thanks for all the replies. Phone now paired and display in English. Joy.

What was the problem mate?

I found the instructions confusing. It said to hold down the button "beneath the storage compartment" for three seconds with the ignition in position 0 then to turn the ignition to position 1 and release the button after a further three seconds. The problem was that the illustration showed a button on the multi-function steering wheel which did absolutely nothing. It was only after much wringing of hands that I found an identical button beneath the central armrest. I suppose it's what happens when the technologically incompetent encounters instructions translated from German. All sorted now.
