Hi everyone,

I’ve just got my first second hand BMW today and I’m just wondering you could help me out with a few questions I have. Just so you know I have a 2000 (V reg) BMW 320D.

1. When I press the accelerator I can hear a whistle like noise coming from the engine bay, so much so you can hear it in the cabin with the windows closed.

2. When slowing the car feels likes it’s almost kangarooing to a stop, this may just be me).

3. The car doesn’t seem to be as ‘sharp’ as I expected, I used to havea 2.0TDCi mondeo which was much faster off the mark.

The car has a 28 day warrenty which I why I want to get to the bottom of the issues ASAP so the garage can do the repairs.

I’d appreciate any help.

Thanks

Tom

Hi welcome along.

1. sounds like turbo on way out...need second opinion though

2.Kangarooing? what like juddering ABS like or other..explain a little more mate

3.Result of 1 maybe?

Is the whistle louder when cold?

Is the excessive smoke too, if not coold just be an air leak....which also would explain loss in power maybe?

Dabz is your bast man for this, he will be around within the next 24 hours mate

There is no smoke at all, I only got the car today so I can’t really tell you if it’s worse when it’s cold, but I thought it may be a loose pipe; on the Mondeo I had, a loose pipe going into the turbo which sounded similar.

Best thing to do...as you know dude..take it back get it sorted..

Definatly no smoke but there is a knocking from under the front axel I think, I've been trying to contact the garage all morning but no answer I've even been down but theyre out collecting cars apparently

Knocking could be bushes, bmws are prone for poo suspension.

Not a major problem though, I did mine myself.

You need to see who sold the car to you tbh.

Park it in front of there gates, block them give them your number and walk away.

I bet they get in touch within ten minutes.

Hi welcome along.

You are my prodigal son, Gav... They would've been my first ideas too!!!

But just to add to your brilliance... Slipping belts, failing pulley bearing(s), alternator, waste-gate malfunction or even Roger Whittaker strapped on the bonnet

I'm no help, am I ?
