Removing the intake manifold and expecting to remove 3 bolts, There was only one. Surely that's not right... right?

3 bolts and a gasket mate!!

Am I correct by saying that this lil fella stops/reduces blow-by, which would explain all the oil in my Throttle body? Surely it not being bolted to the intake manifold with a gasket would not allow it to perform its job?

I'm trying everything to move the subject from 'Ow Darren, looks like your piston rings are fried' to 'Yeah, it needs a gasket and new bolts! :D'.

That looks like the Plenum chamber which mixes the fuel/air.... Looks a botch too, without bolts n gasket ! That will leak air very badly !!
