X120d Drive - New Purchase Issues Question

Featured Replies

Hello,

Finally got myself a BMW. X120d XDrive 2018 - Auto with 56k miles and full BMW service history.

However, after 1 day, it came up with a Drivetrain Fault. The dealer has taken it to a BMW specialist, who has diagnosed a gearbox issue and booked it in with a gearbox specialist next week. Under warranty, so no cost to me.

At the same time, when I turned the engine off, there was a loud buzzing from the engine, like something was trying to run but was stuck. They have told me this is linked to the gearbox issues, but that doesn't sit right with me. Can anyone confirm or offer any advice?

Thank you

Morning Liam

Welcome to the Forum

Without Diagnostics not really the buzzing sound could be the Transfer case motor over-running or a stuck relay, without hearing it difficult to hazard a guess. I have read that cars with the Aisin Warner 8 speed box around your vintage did have some issues but most were on US sites

At least you have a proactive Dealer and a Warranty lets hope it's a simple fix

Thank you, Dave.

I purchased it from Evans Halshaw, and they have been great so far. I appreciate your advice on this, and upon pick up, I will ensure the buzzing sound has gone. I'll update once I know more.

The gearbox felt like it was giving a kick, like on a manual car if you let the clutch out too quickly. Either way it's in for repair.

Thanks, Liam
