Hi, I have a warning on my dash that the DPF unit needs attention. I assume this means it requires regeneration. Any pointers on best type of additive fluid to use for this and what is the most successful procedure,  Thanks Paneuro.

Morning Andrew

Someone with the software can trigger a Regen if your isn't doing it it's self. For the regen cycle to trigger you need at least a half hour forty minutes with revs at 2500 or above you also need all the Glo plugs working as BMW use them to boost cylinder temps.

Now the actual DPF, depending on DPF age and the type of journeys undertaken we are back to Software to measure the ASH content % as this is the bit that tells the car to show the warning and eventually go into limp mode.

Solutions (1) take it for a good trash (Italian Tune Up) see if that works (2) Software there are several Diagnostic systems now capable but as I have INPA/ISTA that is my weapon of choice (3) Last is the Garage many will recommend NEW DPF ££ some will recommend DPF cleaning ££ (friend of our sons had this done seems to work)

Both the last options will need software capable of resetting all the DPF adaptions to factory settings

motorway for 30 mins, 3rd gear... get the revs up and sit there with the revs up higher 3k or so. This will regen and blow out all crud.

When driving as normal, get the revs up, use up the gears before changing, dont change gears too early. Not only good for the DPF but good for your flywheel if its a manual.

Diesels need to be driven hard sometimes.

Thanks guys, I'm going to give it the beans a bit tomorrow and see how that goes. I'm trying to get into the secret menu just to get an idea if it does a regeneration while I'm driving it hard. I will let you know how it goes. Thanks Paneuro.

Hi guys here's the latest. I drove to Glasgow and back today. Around 40 miles of dual carriageway each way and kept the revs between 2500 and 3000 approx. I kept it in fourth gear as much as possible. I also kept an eye on the temp which hovered between 68 and 74 degrees each way. My son in law put his Carly on it while I was there and cleared the EGM light and the DPF fault. the DPF returned on the way home but not the EGM. When I purchased this car 7 years ago it had the DPF light on and it turned out the problem was solved by replacing a faulty thermostat which was preventing the engine regenerating due to low running temperature. I think it warrants investigation as it cured the problem then. Any other thoughts? thanks Paneuro.

Hi, I have now replaced the thermostats and the car is now running at around 90 degrees but I am now getting a fault code P0112 saying there is a fault with the air intake sensor? First of all where is it and can i clean it ? thanks Paneuro.
