Hi there just a question  for the experts in the know. I'm looking to change my car after a very long time & would love something a lot more fancy & powerful than what I'm currently driving. The 6 series has long been my dream car but was always out of my reach financially but now is the time when it's finally within my reach, my question to ye guys is would the car be suitable as a daily driver or am I mad, My workplace is a good 35 - 40 min drive  5 days a week so mileage would be quiet high year on year..would I be wise to steer clear of high mileage cars? or once service history is good I should be safe enough?

Depends which model, i have the 640D and do about 15k a year, heavy traffic and i'll still get 40mpg by putting it in eco pro mode

Parts can be expensive, servicing same as other cars really, oil could do with being changed every 8-9k miles to keep it healthy

6 series (F13) problem areas from my personal experience would be wheels (20" wheels can buckle or crack reasonably easy) brake discs, some suspension components, so i would go for a motorway test drive up to "motorway" speeds and check for vibrations and brake judder

And yes look for a good service history as you would with any car

Cheers Mark for the info, have to thread carefully I suppose & make sure the car is straight before I dive in, parts like you say been expensive can be a sticking point but I'll see how it goes anyway

Mark is spot on with his advice they are great cars and not as scary as many think if you are a DIY home mechanic.

Our pot holed roads can wreak havoc on modern alloys tyres and suspension so check tyre condition and signs of uneven wear. History you can check in 3 ways Insurance (HPI) will tell of any untoward incidents Mot history will show if advisories have been attended to or ignored Service history will demonstrate general maintenance and with reciepts any other repairs. Check gearbox services have been done (often ignored)
