I am looking at a,new series 1 but we have a very low annual.mileage need .the new car would be left unused for around 3 months.

Morning Dennis

Welcome to the Forum

Is that 3 months in a block or over the 12 month span ? My only thought would be is a new car actually necessary or is a low mileage second user car the way to go (it would work for me)

The main issues folks have with low use cars are Battery related so if you don't have one get a good battery trickle charger and make sure the Battery is Tip Top particularly when it's cold like this morning

Dennis,
I echo Greydogs post.

It'll certainly pay to have a good battery charger that conditions the battery (Such as a CTEK conditioner)

Dont just put a cheap trickle charger on as these are known to end up frying the battery.

Thanks, the car would be left for about 10 weeks of so twice a year.So continuous periods. I can't use a trickle charger as the car would be outside.I have just cancelled an order for a new Lexus LBX after reading many reports of battery failure and the fact that it is a full strength hybrid not a mild hybrid like my wife's Fiat 500.  Also continuous updates from.Lexus while the car is parked was causing massive battery loss. How about a solar charger for the new BMW  Series 1 any thoughts ? Dennis

Solar charger should certainly help!

Not sure if 12V cigar light is direct or switched feed from battery.
If switched, it may pay to connect solar charger direct to batery.

I was thinking of using the obd port....this recommended by the AA whose solar charger I use for my E Pace.

I can't add anything here as I have rarely left any of my cars for extended periods, and when I have I use my Ctec with a plug timer set to come on 12hrs before my return. We used a solar charger on the Horse Lorry for a while but it was never really successful (that was quite a few years back though)
