BMW 118d 2.0 Diesal 2005 - 5th & 6th gear selection problem

Featured Replies

Hi folks as the title says all was fine and was driving home from work, when i went to go into 5th gear and it was struggle to push into gear and the same for 6th gear.

Today i disconnected the linkage to try and see if 5th and 6th was easily selectable by hand unfortunately this is not the case.

Would you say this is gearbox issue as this is with the car not started and is the same when started.

both gears still work just very very hard to select any advice please.

Hi Brian

Welcome to the Forum

Do you know if the gearbox has been serviced/fluid changed, the poor old gearbox is one of the often abused parts of the drive train. if it is low on fluid or has never been serviced that is where the problem may be

The ZF schedule is service every 30000km or 24 months

Hope this helps

Dave
