2024 X1. How can I prevent the satnav sending me down narrow lanes with grass  up the middle when a perfectly good clear alternative is available?

Morning Spencer

Welcome to the Forum

Are you sure you are not a Truck Driver 🤣 I thought they were the ones stuck down lanes where they can't turn around

Check settings look for "Use Motorways" or similar it may be set on shortest route or something similar

Enjoy your exploring in your X1

Hi Greydog

Thanks for your comments. The lanes the satnav took me down would challenge a Transit van let alone a truck! A one week old car with vegetation brushing each side of the car and no way out except forward not happy! Started off ok. Problem is without looking at a map there is no way of gauging the type of road

I have checked the nav settings and there is no Fastest, Shortest or Eco. Only avoid motorways, ferries and tolls

Any ideas?

Select accept Motorways Ferries and Tolls then it should keep you out of the undergrowth 🤣

They are selected!

I must have done something to upset it!!

I am concerned that the other options are not shown. Dealer has ordered me the satnav manual and I shall check if they are meant to be there

Cheers

I am away on holiday at the moment in sunny Devon the county with narrow lanes which my sat nav has taken a liking to!

I never had this problem with my previous 2015 X1  and initially thought it must be me  and the answer would be simple hence turning to the brains of the forum.

My intention is to contact the dealer on return

Thanks for your comments

I have the very same problem. Impossible in Cornwall - google maps has no problem so why should the BMW Sat-Nav. Back in Essex is still uses the most inappropriate lanes it can find. The replies given for this problem are no help and just adds to the appalling quality of the software used by BMW.

Morning Clive

Welcome to the Forum

Back to the Dealer me thinks and ask them, as the car is new they should help at least with a tutorial.

If it is a software issue they should sort it for you. I would hope?

As there was no follow up by Spencer we don't know if his Dealer was any help

Dealer no real help

Last week I finally received a copy of the navigation owners handbook which I requested in the vain hope it would provide better information the general car manual.

No joy there. Detailed information is sadly lacking. For example on setting route criteria after giving the steps to setting the criteria it merely says "select the desired setting" . No mention of what the criteria are unlike other manuals I have read.

I can only assume that the logarithm employed simply selects the quickest route. Interestingly on some journeys it give me a option of routes showing the time difference on others it doesn't

Looks like back to android for journeys outside of urban areas

Morning  Spencer

When you call up Route Criteria what shows on the screen ?

Even with Tom Tom (Android App) I upgraded the screen to an Android Unit in my E70 and I get a list and one is Motorways Toll Roads and Ferries which needs selscting and a check box ticking. My E53 X5 is still BMW OEM Professional system but as it's last upgrade disc was 2016 is a tad out of date but from memory I had to select Fastest Route (again a check box)

My personnal choice is Android these days the Tom Tom App is quick to load and simple to use so if you can set up Android Auto I would use that. Oh Oh you better get the Manual out again 🤣

Good Luck

Dave
