Hi, just got my first and maybe my last BM X5 2009 diesel ....had three issues so far, First was nearside front brake caliper seize then a month later the offside front caliper seize and then three weeks later the timing chain snapped causing a fatal engine death.....and the cars only covered 80K miles so you can probable understand my reluctance to stay with the brand..but apart from that I enjoyed..for a short time anyway, the feel and power produced by the 2.9 ltr engine But the hard ride gets some getting used to with the wide, low profile tyres. bye....anyone know a good mechanic ?

Hi Chris

Welcome to the Forum

Lordy you have had a tale of woe

What is the service history like?

Calliper's seizing I have known that on several Marques normally due to brake fluid not being changed to schedule, but timing chain on the M57 engine that is a rare occurrence they normally are as tough as old boots, my brother inlaw has 5 series touring on his 3rd all have gone well past 200k. Which is why I question it's history.

Ride on low profile tyres particularly run flat's is again a well known comment not limited to BMW my AMG's were hard. I take it your on 20" wheels non rum flats will help or you could go to 19" wheels which would help more. My winters are 18" 255 x 55 and ride is vastly different, though they are not on the car due to us not really having a winter for years 😁
