Morning Tony

I would clean the EGR refit make sure all the vacuum lines are in good condition and fitted, run the engine to clear any residue left (with my sons Toyota it was engine up to temp then a blast on the local dual carriageway. The huge black cloud he left behind when he floored it was something to behold) Then re-run diagnostics clear down the codes run the engine and see if any come back.

Thanks for the reply. I fitted another egr because of the code. I cleared the code went for a run then it came back.

Hi Tony

Sorry to hear you're having problems.

You say you fitted another EGR valve. Was that a new one or one you had kicking around, possibly not new?

I had EGR problems with my 325D in October last year and ended up with a new one, genuine BMW part, and have had no problems since. It was fitted by a local BMW Specialist, not a main dealer. mileage at the time was around 70,000. Have only had the car for a year so don't know if this has been replaced previously.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply it was a refurbished one. But I found it strange to have the same code with two different units. I’ve been told to check the vac pipes, the lever that is operated by the pipes does move in and out under operation.

Morning Tony

With my sons Toyota the pipework feeding the EGR was solid with soot/coke as well he brought new pipework. Also worth noting is as he only does short journeys with his tree work business his EGR clogs easily we cleaned it 3 times but the 3rd time it just wouldn't work the answer was a new EGR all fixed.

Thanks for the reply. Short journeys aren’t the problem as I do 450 miles a week with approximately 40 miles per run. Does any body know what this valve does 11747810831 cheers
