Hello everyone -

my first Bmw! I’ve done the whole range of makes (VW, Volvo, Merc, Subaru, Kia, Chevy, Toyota...) and finally got around to the bimmer.

It’s 2015, certified from local dealership / 40k miles...

im not familiar with BMW maintenance, so I’m on the fence about the maintenance package from the dealer - I have a month to reject it, and go it alone with local shops and my own two hands...happy to hear suggestions...

looking forward to enjoying this ride for a while...

Morning Mehmet and Welcome to the Forum.

Depending on mileage and journey type I would expect one service a year (20 to 30k) Service and maintenance carried out at the dealer will always be more expensive due to their hourly rate (almost £200 p/hr + parts) at my local dealer. If the car has an Auc Warranty maybe worth using the dealer to maintain warranty integrity. If not I would find a good BMW Specialist as they are normally BMW trained and have all the specialist tools and software that a dealer has (my BMW specialist is £70 p/hr). I do most general maintenance jobs myself (with the help of my sons, younger and bendier) only using the garage for things I can't manage. I have BMW specific software for Diagnostics on an old laptop so checking and reading fault codes and resetting and clearing them is a simple task (my local dealer charges £90.00 for a code read only). I have found it invaluable on the X5 plus a few friends I have been able to help out have been grateful.

I would look the deal and check out local costs and compare the 2 stamps in the book are paramount to maintain the value, mine still has an annual service and stamp at the specialist at MOT time.

I took your advice and reached out to a local shop - they're at $100 , going up to $120 this year. (I don't know what the dealer charges - I would guess $180-$220) -

I did buy it "certified used" (your "AUC" I think) - so most things are covered for the first 16 months... but I do suspect brakes and calipers will have to be changed, and that's probably the most expensive thing that will go out in the next 20,000 miles...

BMW dealer said they don't "preemptively change anything... the car has to tell us what needs to be fixed" - what worries me about that is, if the big ticket which I expect to be the changed, brake pads and calipers, don't get changed in the next 16 months... I've spent $2200 (£1600) on a service contract that has done nothing but change the oil!

So I will probably drop the contract and hold on to the money and hope that I don't end up spending more in the next 16 months, 16,000 miles!

We'll see!

      I’m new to the forum as well as to BMW automobiles in general. I just purchased a 2013 BMW 320i Xdrive with just under 57,000 miles for my son as his first car. Looking at service records the timing chain, valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket, brakes, and rotors were replaced around 45,000 miles. Are there any common issues these cars tend to have that I need to be aware of? The only thing I’ve found is one of the reverse light housings is broken on the side next to the tail light. A common problem if you don’t remove the housing correctly from what I’ve read. Feel free to give me any advice or info I may need to know.

      650i crank no start

      Good morning Dave Thanks for the reply, towing it isn't in my best interest I would like to get it running. And the parts car runs it just has no title which is why it's a part out car, which is good for me. I did a little research on the ews immobilizer code I got and that seems to be where my problem lies. Considering it ran one minute and not the next, and it's the code it's throwing. As both fuel and spark systems stopped working. I will check all the sensors as well I know bmws can be weird if they aren't getting signals from maf or others. My 135i was a similar case to this one and it was just a maf sensor. I opened the Schrader valve and tested fuel pressure it had plenty of pressure and flow. I don't know why that would knock out spark too though. I'm just not really sure how to fix the ews fault there isn't a ton of support for this car. I had a hard time even finding a fuse diagram. I am going this Friday to try again so any help with fixing that code would also be appreciated. Thanks

      Wireless charging?

      My 320d has wireless charging, however my s24 ultra doesn't seem to like it I have had a "phone too hot remove from charger" error (from the phone) once or it simply does seem to get much of a charge. The LED goes blue when I put it in the tray. Advice appreciated. Rich

      Just purchased 320d Touring

      Hi All, Just purchased a 320d M Sport Xdrive Touring 2019 40,000 miles. £25k. Really liking the car, I was trying to get A4 Avant Quattro but struggling to find one I liked/right price. Tried the 320 and decided to go for it, purchased from main dealer so probably paid over the odds but at least it's fresh MOT and serviced with one year warranty and free boot liner and dog guard thrown in. But cheesed off they didn't top up AdBlue or fit the dog guard properly. Two quick questions: Is my model G21? Do they still do/where would I find the sticker that lists the options the car comes with (in my old Golf it was in the spare wheel well)? Cheers Rich

      Parking Break Failure

      Afternoon Darren Just your BMW telling you that you needed a Dealers help 😅 Or hoping to scare you into their arms Try a Parking Brake reset, as you only changed pads a Soft Reset should work Turn on the ignition. Hold down the parking sensor button for 3-5 seconds until you hear a beep. Release the button, and the system will reset Hope that does it for you Dave
