The door mirror mountings have corroded and need replacing. BMW want to replace/sell complete unit but this seems to be overkill. Is there anyone who provides / sell these mounting units?

    There is a guy in Germany who sells the parts (€115 for two approx) but they are not original BMW according to my local BMW dealer. They also claim they are difficult to instal and a special tension tool is required.

    Will post how I get on with this.

    You may be right but I am still researching.  It annoys me that I can not get these parts from BMW nor get them fitted by them. Have not given up and will talk to members of the Z3 roadster club Deutschland. Others must have come across and fixed this problem.
