Greetings to all, My name is Wayne and a proud owner of an X5 E53 auto sport. I previously owned an E46 touring which had the swirl flap bomb! so i learned the expensive way and the first thing i did when i got this X5 was to look at the swirl flaps lol. Into to bikes and currently work at Triumph Motorcycles Ltd.

I don't blame you sorting the swirl flaps on the X5, its only usually a matter of time before they go!

Do you ride a Triumph as well as work on them?

Hi Trevor, i don't have one at the moment and my last bike was a Harley. I am currently a team leader on the chassis line.

just been told i need two new track rod ends and new caster bushes..... great. this should clear my braking judder above 60 mph....#justloveBMW

That's not too bad overall, rod ends and bushes shouldn't be too expensive and as you say at least it will improve the driveability.

Had Harleys too...going back to one soon I hope.

 

mine was unreliable, but looked great and sounded amazing!

I have been told powerflex bushes are a bad choice and to stick with heavy duty bushes (castor bushes)???

Powerflex are okay if you want to use the car for the track but for everyday use , you'll feel every bump

cheers. Stick to the heavy duty ones then, as the roads around here are !Removed!!

i went to a BMW qualified mechanic, told him the concerns i had with the braking over 60 mph plus a bit of vibration, told him when i got the castor bushes changed before..... etc.

so i wanted 2 new track rod ends, 1 ball joint as the other was new, 2 new castor bushes well complete arms. He had the guts to quote me £550...... lol

no chance...#ripoff

Ouch!  big money for what I would class as regular maintenance parts and given the amount of after-market parts available at a reasonable cost.

i have been thinking............... it does happen from time to time.

i might give Helga (the X5) to them,  see what they say. To find out if something else is not right so i don't waste the money.
