2006 330I, Dash Christmas Tree, 35+ Codes, $100 CASH for the "fix"! PLEASE HELP!

Featured Replies

New to the forums so hoping to get a little help here!

First: 2006 BMW 330I, Auto, Stock.
Issue: SO... The car has multiple error lights on the dash, check engine light, ABS light, Traction light... Car is VERY hard to start and will smoke black like crazy. Assuming this is caused by the temp sender issue. Will run but wants to die. Also Idrive has no display and blower dose not.. well blow.
The Pcodes I'm getting are!

P0118- Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor 1 Circuit High
P0158- O2 Sensor Circuit High Voltage (Bank 2 Sensor 2) (assumed caused by above)
P0123- Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch 'A' Circuit High

Here is what has been done.
DME has been swapped with another DME Set... Same issues
Temp Senders Replaced
New Throttle Valve (OEM)
Negative battery cable with IBS ( Awaiting Arival)
NEW Battery (Programmed)

I have pulled the pins from the DME going to the temp sender, tested perfect continuity with no shorts. We have swapped parts and have done just about everything we can think of.
COULD this be the battery cable that has failed??? Or?? At a complete loss and about to take to the dealer... Please someone have any ideas... ANY???
Purchased the car like this so I don't have a history.

PLEASE & THANK YOU!
I will literally paypal, or mail $100 CASH to anyone's idea that leads to the fix!

FFFF- CANSYS: Communication Fault

  • 5 months later...

FFFF  CANSYS Communications Fault

Looks like the majority of the modules are NOT successfully communicating with each other over BMW's version of the CANBUS obdII communication protocol..  Every message they send.

From the way the messages are worded, it looks like the brains behind the DSC module is the sender (transmitter) of most of these requests that end up as errors; I'm thinking it's querying a whole bunch of different modules in the car for info, but what comes back to it is garbled who knows what or nothing at all because there is physical damage to the CASNBUS (CANSYS) communications wiring somewhere, and as it is a bus-based system, if you sever part of the backbone, anything past that point is "offline" as far as the rest of the car knows --it simply isn't there, communications-wise..Additionally you then have an electrical "termination" issue because the bus must be terminated properly or you can get signal reflections and all kinds of interference.

My thought is that if you find and fix the CANBUS issue, alot of the other errors will vanish, even though they are not canbus specific.  YOu know the DSC is broadcasting load and clear.

You'll need a physical layout of the CANBUS wiring to be able to see what connects where and then figure out from analyzing the messages "if x can send and y can receive then x is good....y....dunno --- it is saying the message is an error".  So Y might be on the damaged part of the bus. Once you get the schematic for the CANSYS it should become more obvious where the damage is.
