Car: '04 e46 320d touring, ~119k miles

Scenario: Super low fuel (~10 miles remaining), make an overtake then my engine management warning light pops up. Go to fill up, warning light still on after filling up. Go to supermarket, still on after quick shop. Take to car cleaners and it was at some point whilst I was there that the warning light turned off (I was stopping the engine and restarting a lot whilst in the queue).

Now, I'm not sure if all the info above is relevant but obviously the more detail the better when trying find a fault. At the moment all is dandy, but if it's actually a problem I would rather find out and act on it sooner rather than later; don't want to find myself stranded on the commute sometime in the future.

If these symptoms ring any bells, please share your experience/remedy with me :)

Not got a lot of experience with car mechanics, but keen and willing to learn.

Thanks, Josh

The light will go out if the problem does not occur after several restarts however the codes are probably still stored in the ECU. It probably had a momentary loss of fuel pressure due to the tank being low and you accellarating hard.

I wouldn't worry about it but if you want you may want to get the codes read. I wouldn't go to BMW for a diagnostics though as they charge silly money. If I lived anywhere near you I would put my code reader on it for you.

Thanks for the offer. I've asked a couple other people and they have all suggested the same thing, so I am confident it's the correct answer. Thanks for your help :) I'm super glad it's no big deal!!
