Just joined, doing up a 96 740 with factory Alpina suspension and body. Just spent the day cleaning out about two mil of oil all around the engine bay. Have had overheating problems which I hope is not head related.

keep an eye on the engine oil level & the colour of coolant. have an overhaul on the thermostat.

7 series looks good, Cardiff is beautiful :D

Thanks, just got a new thermostat, rad and fan and going to start mailing it back together this week. Once I'm sure I've sorted the overheating will change rocker cover gaskets which should hopefully stop my bay getting covered in oil!!!

Degrease the whole engine, top up all fluids, start her up and patiently watch for seapage and wander to the tail-pipe(s) and take note of smoke colours and hydrocarbons ;)

Engine is degreased, got a new rad, thermostat and fan (2 fins missing on fan and a small leak in the upper right corner of the rad and I wasn't convinced the thermostat was working) and will be nailing it all back fohefher when I get back off holiday. Debating as wether to put a new water pump on as everything else is being changed. Thanks for the advice, I should have news within the week. Originally bought it to sell on and make a few quid but it is just the best car ever and will be kept in my collection. I am mainly a motorcyclist but this car is so awesome it will stay with me forever!!
