Hi Guys,

sorry it's been a while since I have been on here :(. Been super Busy with Uni.

Finally got my self a new steering rack, track rod and tie rods.

What I'm trying to find out is what power steering fluid (ATF) to use?

Also are there any things in particular to look out for when changing the rack?

Cheers,

Steve.

I've just always used Dex II ATF....

Nothing really to be said about changing the rack. I yanked one out of a '98 316i which isn't to similar to your 318is i guess and upon inspection, removal should appear logical with the installation being the reverse of removal.

Make sure to count the turns or mark where the original track rods screwed onto the old rack. I would advise getting it all laser-tracked anyway but, you don't want to be miles out as it will eat your tired and be dangerous (effects breaking).

If you get stuck; PICTURES PICTURES PICTURES! :D

Cheers for the replies lads.

Yeh I'll be tracking it myself at my work placement straight after. Trackings out as it is at the moment anyway :(.

I'm sure it will be simple enough, just thought I would ask incase there where any do nots or common problems when doing this job.

Also I'll be fitting rack spacers so even if I mark and adjust the sake they'll still be miles out :).
