Hi

Have to confess something- in over 40+ years of motoring have only ever previously driven one BMW and never owned any so a slight departure for me.

Bought a very nice 1990/91 525i auto a week ago with very few prior owners and 66k. It's a complete contrast from my other car- a 72 Lotus Elan Sprint which I've owned since 1978- first impressions are very high build quality, weight and attention to detail, not what I'd call nimble but definitely a good long distance vehicle. I'm really surprised to find it rust free after 23 years (even behind the wheelarch liners) so full marks for assembly standards- although I'm given to understand that E34 models were apparently particularly well screwed together.

As luck would have it it's not loaded down with too many "bits"- no airbags and no asc- not sure about whether or not it's abs equipped as I'm not familiar with the sensor locations. Won't be too fussed if abs isn't present as I've managed without it so far and I don't tailgate anyway. Has the sort of interior I prefer- blue leather (exterior is light blue), not over ornate and very airy. I seem to recall reading years ago that these were considered "large" cars- I think they might have been overtaken by family hatchbacks in this respect.

I'm currently working thru a Dinitrol rustproofing exercise- over the top maybe but won't do any harm to update protection of the structure- after a complete service it'll be pressed into use and we'll see how it behaves.

Keep you posted.

Regards

John

Hi

Just a short thanks to those who emailed me in response to my initial posting.

How do I post pictures on this site?

Regards

John

post pictures ?

i have never posted any myself so i too would like to know -

Welcome John! I'd like to see your Lotus too, but it looks like you need external storage to share photos. Something like Photobucket, Imageshack or even Dropbox would do the trick.
