Knocking Noise N/s Front

Hello this is my first post.

I have just bought a used 2003 x5 3.0i and noticed when going slow over uneven surface there is a faint knocking sound from front left wheel.

I looked over a few forums and it seemed quite a common fault with people saying its either the anti roll sway bar link, anti-roll bushes or steering control arms.

Just wanted to ask if anyone could advise how I can check for each of these without first going to a garage?

Many thanks in advance

Hi and welcome! My technical knowledge isn't the best but I would say jack it up and have a good luck underneath to see if there is any excessive play in any parts. Also check to see if there is any movement in the wheel where there should not be...

First thing I ALWAYS do when I hear this kind of noise is change the Drop-Links and whilst I'm down there, might aswell change the roll-bar bushes like what you suggested.

Can be done yourself :)

If this does not solve, I would then move on to the strut. Top mounts or possibly the shock insert it's self.
