Help! The engine's worn out and my Specialist tells me I need a new one but they are as rare as hen's teeth. Using lots of oil and running rough, low compression etc etc. Any ideas or suggestions anyone ..... Please!

Thanks for the suggestions Guys. Think I've almost decided to get a new block and rebuild, though looking for a 7 series engine is tempting.... Wish me luck!

Looking like a rebuild matey... Probably new pistons/ringests

With bad piston rings often comes bad bores. Rebore & Rings with anythign inbetween is big bucks as DabsySpannerMan has said! Drop a new lump in :)

the engines are not toooooo rare. You could in theory rob one from a 740i/il E38 as they use the same lump (M62B44 - TU depending upon year). E38 740s are scrapped all the time as they are fuel guzzlers (what we likkke! :D ) and there isn't a massive second hand market for them.

Let me know if you need any help bud
