  2. Hi Rob, yes I did get it sorted and it was the Bi xenon set up that Greydog alluded to in the earlier post. It was just my understanding of how the beam worked which was causing me the confusion. Apologies as should have responded quicker.

  5. Hi Dave, Thanks for all of that, very very helpful. I will be on it asap. Particularly the earths. Will check throttle body but I would have hoped it would have thrown a code or two at me if not functioning? When it does start, seems to run fine. Had another look this morning at the live data. Only 2 bar with ignition on. This did use to be 4 bar but I have just replaced all of the pumps and filters?? Cranking gives me about 20 bar?? Will come back once done. Thanks again Jon
  6. Morning Jon Sounds like you have chased this around for awhile, have you checked the Throttle body and Throttle position sensor and loom ? Also check carefully the loom on the engine I have seen an issue caused by cracked insulation causing an intermittent short to earth. I guess you are aware of www.realoem.com Check the engine earth strap and it's connections engine mount to chassis rail seen a couple that needed replacing. Also in the engine bay there are 2 or 3 from memory earth multi-points worth checking they are clean and remount using an electrical contact paste. Last not sure what Diagnostic your using But PA Soft BMW 1.4.0 is perfect for your car just need a Laptop to set it up it will give Dealer level access Good Luck Dave
  7. Hi Everyone, Just joined and hope for some advice on an issue I am having. I have a 2005 E46 330D Touring (Auto), she has done 60K and is my pride and joy!! She is though, proving to be a right royal pain in the backside! Story so far: I have had intermittent starting which doesn’t seem to have any particular routine to it. The engine will crank but does not fire up. I stuck my scanner on and picked up a constant code I cannot seem to get rid of and a few other codes (glow plugs!) when I am having the issue, but not when she does decides to run! I get fault code 4302 constantly whether she fires up or not. I get fault code 4B90 when she doesn’t want to start. Now, lots done so far. 1. Fuel tank pump replaced 2. Fuel filter under passenger seat replaced 3. Fuel pump under passenger seat replaced 4. Fuel pump relay replaced 5. Fuses in the ECU compartment checked and ok 6. Fuel quantity regulator on the back of the HPFP replaced twice with genuine Bosche# 7. DME replaced Now, I know the fault codes have specific nuances for each car brand. I am not sure exactrly what 4302 means in my car and I also assume that 4B90 is perhaps a result of the 4302 code? Reading live data, I get about 2-4 bar with the ignition turned on and the electric pumps running. When she doesn’t want to fire up this goes to a pathetic 6 bar when cranking. When she does fire up, it will go to 400 bar and sit there quite happily on tick over, with a 3 bar fluctuation now and then. I can only think that there is something wrong with the fuel rail pressure sensor or rail pressure regulator or HPFP? Also, does anyone know where the “earth bar” for the engine sensors is? I want my car back!! Thanks Jon
  8. Hello fellow Bimmers I own a 645 Grand Coup 2013 model year. The driver side lock was acting up so I took it to a shop in Dallas TX. Two months later I am still waiting for this part that apparently can only come from Germany. The shop says the door cannot be put back as it is the controller for the locking system. Seems hard to believe but a rival dealership corroborates the story and I am not getting any response from BMW America Anyone had this issue before?
  9. I wouldn't be holding my breath for that Paul 🤣 Dave
  10. so 4 months on and still no comment from BMW. I will certainly look to change this filter holder each 30K miles. Seems good practice to do so. Hopefully BMW will think it courteous at a minimum to actually provide some guidance on this matter.
  11. OK, update on slow water leak. An inspection found that the bottom main hose had developed a leak through a sensor which sits on top of it. Only became apparent when under pressure. All other sources are visibly clear, water pump gasketing etc etc , which is good news for me. Spring cleaning coming up and canvas roof to be done. Just working away bits of green algae with my trusted tooth brush first before recolouring and proofing the roof.
  12. Morning Audrey BMW have a Classic Car section who are normally very helpful but only history of service and repairs carried out at Dealerships will be recorded. So paper history is still important. You can also use a BMW Vin decoder to gain knowledge of the cars original spec at order/build Dave
  13. I'd like to share my knowledge regarding obtaining a free VIN check for a classic car. There are several ways this could be achieved. Firstly, you may receive direct assistance from an online community like this one, enabling you to obtain your vehicle history report. Secondly, you could opt to directly contact the manufacturer of the vehicle. They may have the ability to provide you with detailed information about your vehicle. Another option is to search online to see if any companies offer a classic car VIN check for free. While I'm uncertain about the feasibility of this, it's worth investigating. Based on my experience, the easiest method to obtain a vehicle history report, whether for new or older cars, for free, is by asking around in forums. You might encounter someone willing to help you, possibly with extra credits to spare.
  14. Yay great result Paul Plus the suns out (not sure how long) Dave
  15. Morning Paul Welcome to the Forum My bet would be the Diversity antenna has suffered water ingress (common at around your cars age) or the loom (left hand side) where the boot hinge is has a crack in one or more of the wires (less common). My money would be on the Diversity antenna try holding the key on top of the rear spoiler that sometimes works Remember if you change the antenna your keys will need to be re-programmed to the car. Use www.realoem.com to get the correct part number for your car then use Google to search for the part. If your antenna is not in to bad a state you could try repair specialists like Cartronix or ECU testing to see if they can fix it. Changed a few of these including my brother inlaws 😁 Good Luck Dave
  16. Morning Bledion Welcome to the Forum My brother in law has used a Company called GAD in Essex they are very knowledgeable worth a search and talking to them about what you want to achieve and of course how your wallet will feel afterwards 🤣 Dave
  17. Hi guys, I want to stage 1 my BMW 435i. what do you guys recommend I do/need to make it as safe as possible for my engine. any recommend tuners also in london or kent area. Thank you
  18. I have a Bmw 5 series E61 and if I open the tail gate the central locking no longer works unless you use the manual key. I had my mechanic look at it and he said I needed a new key fob as the fob did not give off a signal. However, around 12 hours later the central locking will work again, the fobs give off a signal and will be fine unless I open the tail gate. I am wondering what could be causing this. Perhaps a relay, or a sensor is causing a feedback to the key fobs which stops them working for a while? It will disable all the fobs nearby that unlock it.
  19. Confirm repeated goes. The algae is usually quite deeply engrained so the hot soap and water does need to be used regularly with the said tooth brush. Once lifted you can also go over with a proprietary cleaner, I use the Renovo products and have done for 6 years now, cleaner followed by the colour and then the waterproofer. There are other products but these ones have worked for me. Do the roof twice a year and still I get some green spots so it is just one of those things running a canvas roof. Mind you using a cover in the winter probably does'nt help things but there you go.
  20. No starting issues to report since the relay was changed. Looking like a solid fix.
  21. Thanks Dave, it is intermittent to be fair which could be explained by the caliper observation. Ill give them an overhaul in the spring and see if that changes anything and report back.
  22. Hi Lorraine Welcome to the Forum Sorry to say it may not be, though it does need investigation. If your lucky it may be a recall item though you should have received a letter You need the help of someone friend or Garage who has a BMW capable diagnostic program to check what is causing the issue. The Dealer will charge for diagnostics plus repair Dave
  23. Hey there! Sounds like you're dealing with a frustrating issue with your 2014 X3 TPMS system. It's great that you've already tried replacing the RDC module and using the Autel TPMS coding tool to register everything – driving several hundred miles without a hitch is a good sign. The recurring TPMS malfunction message after shutting off and restarting the car does sound like a memory issue, especially considering you recently replaced the battery and reprogrammed the sunroof. It might be worth trying a battery disconnect to reset the system and see if that helps. Sometimes, a full system reset can work wonders in clearing out any glitches. Additionally, double-checking all connections and ensuring everything is securely in place might also be a good idea. If the issue persists after the battery disconnect and reprogramming, it might be worth reaching out to a BMW specialist or dealership for further diagnostics. Hang in there, and hopefully, you'll have that TPMS system running smoothly again in no time!
  24. Hey there! Good morning to you too, and congrats on considering the 2018 220d coupe – sounds like a sleek ride you're eyeing up. Let's tackle your questions one by one. First off, regarding the timing chain issue, BMW has made improvements over the years to address any potential issues. However, it's always a good idea to do your research and perhaps ask the seller or a trusted mechanic if any specific updates or fixes have been done to the timing chain on the 2018 model. As for reliability, BMWs are generally known for their solid build quality and performance. With proper maintenance and care, they can be quite dependable. That said, like any car, they may have their quirks, so it's essential to stay on top of routine maintenance and address any issues promptly. When it comes to servicing costs, budgeting around $700 to $1000 per year for routine maintenance sounds about right for a car driven around 7000 miles annually. This would cover things like oil changes, filter replacements, and inspections. Of course, actual costs can vary depending on factors like your location, the condition of the car, and any additional services needed. Hope this helps, and best of luck with your decision!
  25. Driver restraint system warning light on is this covered out of warranty?
  26. Thanks Dave Taking the door trim off this weekend and removing the sill plugs, had to get a trim removal kit. Ill now if there's water damage as soon as the plugs are removed, hoping when the door trim is off i can check whether there is any power to the motor. if there isn't that's a problem as the top will somehow have to come down, ill keep researching or as a last resort the main dealers! ill update when i get a resolution Cheers
  27. Morning Andy Welcome to the Forum Never experienced this myself but a friend with a garage has seen 2 BMW convertible's with the same or similar. Apparently the sill drains were blocked on both (an amazing amount of water came out of a 3 series I arrived while one was still running out) causing motor issues. Trim off to fix I am afraid One thing I have suffered on one of my X5's is a window binding in it's runner and refusing to open some Silicon Spray and helping the window down (hand either side) worked with an assistant pressing the switch. Then doused the runners with the Silicon spray, as the weather dried out the window was fine but back into the winter and I noticed it slowing down re-sprayed with silicon to fix. Hope this helps Dave
