Paul T M started following Recall letter

I received a letter from BMW today recalling my 330i in order to replace the starter motor which in the worst case scenario could catch fire. I was wondering if anyone else had received one or is it just aimed at the 330i series or is it across all model ranges. I got in touch with my local dealership who took my car and contact details and informed me that they would get in touch once they received a supply of starter motors, but it would more than likely be at least a month or longer until I would hear from them. Would be interested to hear if anyone else has had a similar experience.

Sorry for the confusion I haven't got a reversing camera I was going to fit one that actually goes with the boot handle not inside the glass, sound advice I'm paying for a professional install but as the car is from 2016 maybe best to go a few shades lighter?
-
To be honest, Limo only looks good if it’s done right. Any blemish or pitting on the window makes it look like a bin bag. The camera would only work if it was touching the window so maybe go a couple of shades less 👍🏻

2019 X4 M40i,Driving mode button not working
Steve replied to Trevor Vincent's topic in BMW X4 Series Forum
Welcome Trevor Try and check Check fuse F46 / F48 (glovebox) and F60 (rear right) first. Then Inspect for any signs of spilled liquid around the buttons. Also disconnect battery for 5–10 minutes to hard-reset modules. If nothing then can with diagnostic tool, look for “Switch Cluster” or “Center Console Electronics” faults. If still no lights or function, likely module failure or connector dislodged. Hope this helps -
Thanks for giving me some insight, I will take the advice from the tint company for the front, I haven't as of yet got a camera in the back only sensor's would limo make it hard for me to see? Had tint before just never had the luxury of riding in something with limo

Hi James, enjoy your ride! remember when you go for tints, the car should already be tinted, so get the garage to meter the fronts with the film on the window otherwise it might fail. one of my mates got done for having legal tint film on tinted windows, which he didn’t take into consideration. for the back… limo black! 👍🏻

Hi, just picked up my 2016 f31 really pleased with it! It's in a dark blue and I'm having it tinted on Monday morning, I'm looking for dark rear and lighter (legal) front windows has anyone suggestions on what shade of tint is best? Want full privacy on the rear but still able to see and then obviously front legal but will still go with the back. Many thanks in advance

Hello all, the problem is,I can't select the driving modes , ie Eco, sport, the panel for buttons near the gear shift has also stopped lighting up. I've done a reset, by holding down the audio knob, no change.I thinking it just a fuse.I can't find the specific fuse. But wondering if it could be something else, any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi Dave Thank you. I will give the guy who looks after my car and get it booked in for a diagnosis. No warning lights and to be honest I haven't noticed an increase in fuel usage either. My daughter has a 2025 BMW and the grill on that certainly opens and closes. I will post the outcome for my car once it's been looked at. Thanks again for your help

Hi John I thought the active grill shutter system was there to improve aerodynamic efficiency but as I have not seen one to play with I could well be wrong 😁 If you have no warnings showing and haven't noticed an increase in Fuel use the only way to check will be by diagnostics Dealer costs will be high but you should find a BMW Specialist near you who has BMW ISTA and can run a check at a reasonable cost. If repairs are needed sensors, actuators or Control unit my advice would be get the part numbers and search the internet for the best supply options Dave

Oil leak from turbo outlet flange (B47, 320d G21)
Greydog replied to andy1316's topic in BMW 3 Series Forum
Hi Andrew If the oil pipe seals being replaced didn't fix the issue and you have no other leaks in the area then the next step would have to be remove the Turbo and separate the flange where you are seeing the oil. I would expect to see evidence of the leak there. Good Luck Dave -

BMW X1 Fuel sensor failure.
Lazinsky replied to Stephen1's topic in The Owners Club General Discussions
I bought a 2016 X1 2.0D XDrive with 60K now in 2025 for the sole purpose of doing a few EU trips a year. During the second trip, it happened. Errors, etc. I indemnified the errors with BimmerLink and found some forum discussions like this … holy guacamole! Luckily, the car came with a one-year BMW warranty as I bought it straight from them, but still. They’re replacing everything you guys mentioned as well as the turbo. Luckily, it’s all paid for. But the turbo is not in stock, so the car is sitting for seven weeks already at the dealership. Also, I’m planning to keep the car, so will the fault be corrected or can I look forward to having to do this again in four to five years? Any fixes or ideas? -

Can someone please enlighten me on how the auto grill system is supposed to work? My 2018 M40i has this system fitted but I don't recall seeing it closed I understood that it closed during cold weather to allow the engine to warm up quicker.

Oil leak from turbo outlet flange (B47, 320d G21)
andy1316 replied to andy1316's topic in BMW 3 Series Forum
Thank you for your interest in this topic. There is some hope that a solution can be found through joint efforts) I eliminated the oil feed pipes.Since the first thing I did was replace the sealing rings there. I am attaching a few more photos showing the leaking area. -
Oil leak from turbo outlet flange (B47, 320d G21)

The plot thickens I have changed 2 Turbo's on friends cars but in both cases they were refurbished Turbo's brought as the OEM ones were beyond help. And were fairly straight forward (grazed knuckles) to change. Could the leak you spotted be coming from the Oil Feed pipe ? Dave -

Oil leak from turbo outlet flange (B47, 320d G21)
andy1316 replied to andy1316's topic in BMW 3 Series Forum
Hi Dave, Thanks for your reply! Removing the turbo is not that challenging. The challenge is to find the right gasket.. And here I’m a bit helpless, since no.8 on the drawing does not fit there. Looks like there simply isn’t any gasket.. Andrew -

Oil leak from turbo outlet flange (B47, 320d G21)

Morning Andrew Welcome to the Forum Unfortunately the only solution is to strip it all down and then find it is a £0.50p gasket (hopefully) Good Luck Dave -
Hi guys here's the latest. I drove to Glasgow and back today. Around 40 miles of dual carriageway each way and kept the revs between 2500 and 3000 approx. I kept it in fourth gear as much as possible. I also kept an eye on the temp which hovered between 68 and 74 degrees each way. My son in law put his Carly on it while I was there and cleared the EGM light and the DPF fault. the DPF returned on the way home but not the EGM. When I purchased this car 7 years ago it had the DPF light on and it turned out the problem was solved by replacing a faulty thermostat which was preventing the engine regenerating due to low running temperature. I think it warrants investigation as it cured the problem then. Any other thoughts? thanks Paneuro.

B1g4nt started following Z4 5 speed auto transmission problem
-
Recently acquired a 2.2ltr 2005 Z4 at a price which I could not resist if though it had little or no drive through the transmission. Diagnosed a fluid leak so off came the sump, changed the fluid filter, fitted a new gasket and a new transmission seal to the output shaft put it back in only to find a pool of fluid on the garage floor the next day. My only thoughts now are that the fluid pump may be leaking so I should change the gasket on this as well? Anyone else encountered this problem before? I welcome any advice/suggestions as to how to fix this issue.

Hi everyone, I’ve noticed an oil leak coming from the turbine outlet flange area on my BMW 320d xDrive G21 (2019, B47 engine). The oil seems to be coming from the joint between the turbocharger and the downpipe. Has anyone had a similar experience? Any help or experience with a similar issue would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Thanks guys, I'm going to give it the beans a bit tomorrow and see how that goes. I'm trying to get into the secret menu just to get an idea if it does a regeneration while I'm driving it hard. I will let you know how it goes. Thanks Paneuro.
