x5 Multiple Issues on E70/FE83 (VIN Included for clarity)
NxhFam posted a topic in BMW X5 Series Forum
Hey guys. I'm unsure of the formatting for posts so please correct me as I learn. I am looking for any feedback to help me in diagnostic. I do have paperwork from the last mechanic that worked on it, but the issue is that they did not use a BMW diagnostic tool, they used a generic tool which of course resulted in error codes/descriptions that are less than helpful. Once posted, I will update the topic from my phone since the pictures are on there. I don't believe they would be much help due to the source but anything I can provide on my end that would help reach a more educated diagnosis, don't hesitate to request. I have a 2009 bmw X5 (VIN - 5UXFE83529L308475) https://bimmer.work/vin/l07b52ec71e6aeec1179c8ed5c73494a9/options/ A while back I diagnosed damage to the Tailgate Control Module Unit which was related to the Roof Drain Hose. I unclogged it temporarily until I could take the liner off and replace it properly, however since that was discovered I've had a slew of other issues come up which I believe are related but I do not know for sure. Current issues: The Tailgate won't open automatically on a key press, it does unlock but needs to be opened manually. (Not priority, I don't mind opening it manually for now) The battery stopped charging. (Battery tested and is in good condition) Radio not working in any capacity (likely related to the next issue, but unsure) The hardware on the driver side of the vehicle is likely water damaged, which includes the amp, Teleservice module(Unsure if correct), CD Changer module (actual cd changer in the glovebox), Driving Assistance?(Unsure of module location), Satellite Radio. There's I believe a total of 4 or 5 silver metal 'boxes' or modules on the trunk's driver side well. The SOS light is on (Likely related to previous issue) The 4x4 light came on (possible that the fluid needs topped off but unsure if it's related to something in the trunk) The traction control system is not working, and the button does not allow me to turn it off (always on) I do not want to turn it off, but I would like to diagnose all of the issues so worth listing. The front windshield sprayer is not working, but the rear one is (The front pump was replaced recently but it's not making any sound when using the stalk) (Rear sprayer works by pulling the stalk which seems to be reversed to OEM functionality). Sorry for the long post but this little one was saved from a salvaged yard, and when purchased, it was purchased knowing I would be buying a problem child, but I am still learning about this platform (previously e46, and e39 owner). -

Hi Dave Back from BMW today who checked car over and said everything is in spec and correct. They are saying control.arm is supposed to move and also near bushes as there spring loaded. Find this strange? I literally move the arms back and forth with ease. Stick what to do or where to go now? Had a suspension check at weekend albeit from Halfords and they pointed the arms out as needing replaced. Car still under warranty so guessing if I was paying they would be saying needs changed. Gary

Finally remembered to check on this fault! … nearly mot time! Haha sorted the intermittent wiper issue… that was a rain sensor not sensing rain! IMG_3444.mov

Morning Dave Welcome to the Forum As far as I am aware as long as the replacement is the same part number you should find it plug and play. Even if it requires registration (logging your Chassis number into the replacement unit) ISTA is the tool. Way back 2004/2005 a friends 5 series Footwell Control module failed, the Dealer wanted so much money he was considering scrapping the car!! Dealer told horror stories about cars being Bricked if the unit was swapped and not programmed and you couldn't reprogram used units !! Well it was wrong actually swapping the units over took longer than reprogramming the replacement unit and he still has the car 😁 Since then I have done several for friends and family If you are not aware use www.realoem.com put the last 7 Digits of your Vin into the search box, it will call up your model then search the sections for what you need. Once you have the correct part number Google for the best source/price. Then it is the process of removing the faulty unit and changing it. Before all this are you sure it is the IHKA unit not just a sensor or something else. Your friend with ISTA can help confirm if he hasn't already Dave

StaffordSteve started following 2011 X3 radio reset
-
Hi, I have a 2011 X3 and the dab won’t search for channels. Well it searches for about a minute or so then stops and says no signal. I have tried it in various locations in case it was just rubbish near my house but always the same thing. I was going to try and do the reset on the stereo but the usual keeping your finger on the volume button doesn’t work. I can’t find another way to reset it so any ideas would be gratefully received. many thanks.

Hi Dave just a update on the car they changed the transfer case control module cleared most faults but they also had to change the dsc module under the seat which cleared all faults apparently but now one of the rear air bags on the suspension either won't inflate or leaks so they have to fix that now these bmws seem like they have problems all the time just want to thank u for all your help

I’m looking for info from someone in the know…. Our 2014 Paceman R61 is fitted with the Auto Climate Control (IHKA)which has started blowing warm air due to the interior air temp sensor registering -40deg C. The sensor is part of the control panel. I’ve priced it at the dealer which is ouch £$€ but there are plenty of 2nd hand units about. I need to know if they require reprogramming and/or coding ? - Dealer parts man could not say as it didn’t say on the sheet and master tech was not available. if they do can I reprogram a 2nd hand unit - a friend has ISTA and cable from when he had an R60 Has anyone dealt with this same issue? Any help is appreciated

That's sad news Stu The Mini and 2nd Generation on X3 require their own software for Diagnostics so BMW 1.4.0 wont touch them I am afraid 1.4.0 is brilliant on I-bus cars but anything BMW after 2005/6 and all Mini variants need INPA or ISTA or one of the more up to date systems from Autel iCarsoft etc Dave

Update… the garage reckon it’s the kwe and dme units have failed… It’s gone to the scrap! 😔
-
Morning JC Welcome to the Forum First try the Dealer trick of disconnecting the battery for 30 mins that should clear any faults, if you still get the fault then you need a BMW capable diagnostic system to clear down any fault memory. There are quite a few these days Autel, iCarsoft, and several others Good Luck Dave

Morning Frank I think Bimmerparts only trade through Ebay contact them through ebay and you should get a resolution Your car, is the compressor running but not inflating the airbag ? That is the problem worn out compressor they are around £140 and you can get them from Good Auto Factors or sites like Ebay same with Airbags if you need them about £120 should get 2. I would start with the compressor, on start up does it run until it cuts out and you get the suspension warning on the dash/screen but the car isn't rising? Easy to change a real DIY job Disconnect battery, then under the rear of the car remove the plastic under tray and cover box to expose the compressor. Undo the two airlines remove the electrical plugs then undo the 3 mounting screws, compressor out. Reverse the procedure to put it back don't over tighten the air connectors. slowly lower the car reconnect the battery and the compressor will run and inflate the suspension. About 45 mins work plenty of how too's on the Nett As for BMW specialists I think there are 2 or 3 in the Dublin area just Google them then talk to them Dave

JCNY started following Help with 2014 X3 RDC and TPMS
-
Hi all, I have the exact same issue with my 2014 X3. I brought the car to a local mechanic. He replaced all 4 tire sensors due to low battery. He also changed the RDC sensor because the old one was defective. I bought a used one from eBay that the mechanic programmed to match with the tire sensors. The TPM works fine until I parked the car overnight. I bought the car back for the mechanic to fix it but it only work until I parked overnight. It seems like the settings does not save in the memory. I am still unsure if I have a defective used RDC unit. @Waken, could you please tell me what you do to fix the error? Are you able to use the Autel 508 to reprogram the new RDC controller yourself? If so, I would like to get one as well. Thanks in advance for any information you can provide to help! Best, JC

Funny question. Does anyone know if bmw 1.4.0 work on an59 plate mini? it stopped and refused to start. apparently the garage think it’s key has lost comms, but both keys won’t allow the car to start and the battery is dying. im not with the car now but apparently it’s not the starter motor issue and it won’t push start.

Trixy started following 2 Series Sport 2018 - knocking noise from front of car
-
Hi, My 2 series experiences a knocking noise from the front of the car when the temperature outside is above 18 degrees. This does not happen on cooler days. I have taken it to the garage and they cannot find the fault. Has anyone else experienced this?

Morning Dave thank you Got new brakes when I bought her in April, tyres are Goodyear and Bridgestone with plenty thread and the suspension feels good to me besides that I’m not certain of its condition 😄 There’s a reputable tuner nearby so I’ll look into getting it on the dyno to check the current output and see where I’ll go from there Much appreciated Scott
-
Morning Scott Welcome to the Forum The start point is to ensure your engine is in top condition and your car is producing close to it's original power output which I believe is around 215hp, that means a thorough service and rolling road session. Then talk to the ECU tuners don't just go for the biggest claimed increase, how many have they done ? How successful is it and how satisfied are there customers ? do they have a demonstrator? With a good base to start I would expect a good remap should see 25% to 30% gains it is the gain in torque that is the most important, that's what gets you down the road 😁 However remember brakes, suspension and tyres after all if you get there quicker it's nice to know you can stop and steer as quickly Good Luck Dave

Will do of course Dave Ta again much appreciated

unable to figure why has crank no start 02' 330xi E46
Greydog replied to albertinejim's topic in BMW 3 Series Forum
Hi James You really should get a copy of BMW 1.4.0 ($20) load it onto a laptop then you would be able to run your own Diagnostic Scan. The idea is you don't need a BMW Dealer to have dealer level diagnostics and the cost is far less than changing parts, it would give you accurate information on where to look If you can hear the fuel pump running is there pressure at the fuel rail? If not there could be a blockage in your long list of stuff changed has the vacuum line to the fuel filter been checked? The Pins are the pins in the electrical connector/plugs a pinout will tell you which pin is connected to which colour wire so you can the test end to end continuity. Clearly if there is a break in a wire or poor connection the problem may be that simple Dave -
unable to figure why has crank no start 02' 330xi E46
albertinejim replied to albertinejim's topic in BMW 3 Series Forum
thx for your reply yes, can hear pump. pump is new and everything on dash lights up. I replaced every part that can attach to motor. I'm no mechanic, so no internal work done to it. I did forget to list another replaced part of the many I've done. I did replace fuel injectors as well. Made sure every grommet and gasket where replaced. Did oil change when spark plugs and coils done. Fuel filter when pump was done. Crank sensor when cam sensors done, along with both vanos. Replaced starter relay when checking all fuses. Every part replaced was replaced with oem manufacturer part. So yeah, don't get why it just cranks and doesn't start. Do admit someone will luck out with a lot of new parts at salvage yard when I drop it off there. I been at this for over 6mths, sense November
